personality:
Charlie’s mental defect is one of the main reasons that make him a mysterious and quiet guy. In order to know what he is thinking you would have to ask him because you could not tell by any other means. He is a very observant, caring, and loving person especially to his daughter. He is dedicated to being the sheriff of forks and a loyal person. He likes being alone because it takes the tension level down from being around a big group of people. He hardly lets anyone get close to him in a emotional state ever since his parents died. When he does he is very careful about the specific situation. He has a beaming personality to match his kindness and ability to forgive anyone that has done harm to him in anyway possible. It does not matter whether it be emotional or physical. He can overcome adversity very well and prides himself on that fact. He gives respect where respect needs to be given. He is well liked due to his attitude.
He tends to be over protective of his daughter but that is mainly because she is an only child and he does not want to lose her. It is made obvious when any boy comes knocking at his door seeking his approval to be with his daughter. He can be moody and angry and that affects anyone around him especially his daughter. He is a trusting individual and does not want to know more than he should about most stuff. He is the type of man that can be trusted to do the right thing when something wrong has happened. He cares about his friends and family a lot and is a good comforting person. When he needs to calm down a little it usually watches sports or goes fishing. He is a person that likes to stay in shape. However, his kindness has a limit and he never mixes business with pleasure, so he has learned when he can be a "nice guy" and when it is just a hindrance to his job, and he knows this line very well.
"Don't get your family slaughtered for pride."

history: Charlie was born and raised in Forks around the year 1964. His parents were Geoffrey and Helen Swan. He was an only child. His childhood friends consisted of family members from the Black’s, Clearwater’s and also the Ateara's.They were very close friends but as his teenage years crept up he began to feel like he had been put on the outside burner or left out from that circle of friends. It seemed that his once close buddies had a secret between them that Charlie could never know.
.

Soon High school began and after that he joined the Fork's police department. He would have gone to college but because of his parent's health getting worse he decided to forego college and be closer to his parents. As his life as a cop started so his love life began to start when during that summer when he was on the beach in La push him and Billy saw Renee Higginbotham. You could see that sparkle in his eye when he looked at her.
The next several days they had been getting together and knowing each other. One day her friends decided to continue their journey somewhere and he was promised that he would see her on the trip back. While she was gone he began to realize just how much he missed her and how much she affected him emotionally. When she came back she decided to stay in forks as her friends just left. The impact that he left on her started having impetuous actions. She would act on stuff without even thinking about them and what kind of result may happen.
In the few weeks after they got back together Charlie decided that he did not want to be without her. So He finally proposed to her and she accepted. They got married few weeks after that. After they became husband and wife they purchased a house that was not so far away from his parent's house. As all couples are after they get married they were very happy together. The one thing that made him happier was during the next couple months he found out that they were expecting a baby because Renee was pregnant.
During Renee’s pregnancy he was kept busy tending to his sick and bad health parents. A couple months after that Isabella Swan was born and after Renee was told that Charlie would not leave Forks with her due to Charlie's parents’ health. They got a divorce and Renee left with their child. It started a life of heartaches off because 4 years after that Charlie had to bury his parents .He would get the occasional summer visit rights with his daughter and he worked his way up the ranks in the police department.
That is when Bella met Edward one day at school. And his role of father would be greatly needed as he became the overly protective father especially when issues arose having to do with one of the adopted sons of the local doctor. You could tell the tension and suspicions that Charlie had about Edward and he thought there was a major age difference between her and him. Every now and then Him and Billy black would hang out at his house and watch baseball and eat fish that they had caught or whatever else. He would try and push Bella towards Billy's son Jacob because he thought that was a good idea there.
"You will never put me through that again."

When Bells brought me a second beer when I was only halfway through the first one, I didn't suspect anything… at first. I said thanks but barely glanced up from cleaning my hunting rifle. I vaguely noticed that she was nervous, but that wasn't unusual these days.
"Hey Dad, uhmm, I have a date tonight."
That got my attention real quick. I froze with the rifle still open and stared up at her while she fidgeted on the other side of our little dining room table. Oh yeah, she was nervous, and now so was I.
"Uh, with Edward Cullen," Bells said, looking hopeful and excited in a way I'd never seen before.
"You said you didn't like any of the boys in Forks," I said, feeling protective but maybe sounding grumpy. Okay, I was grumpy - didn't like surprises like this.
"Well, uhm, Edward doesn't live in town, technically."
"Hmm, yeah," was all I said, and frowned. "He's too old for you, Bells," which pretty much translated to, "No."
"No," she said, looking startled but definitely not giving up, stubborn as usual. I frowned deeper, wondering whether she looked maybe a little guilty. "We're both juniors, Dad."
"Wait a minute, Dr. Cullen's got three boys. Which one is Edward?"
"Uh, the youngest one? With the bronze-colored hair."
"Oh." Not the big burly one or the tall blond who reminded me of a mountain lion. Well, that was a little better, but I still wasn't sure about this. I liked Dr. and Mrs. Cullen and had never had a speck of trouble from their five teenagers, but I'd barely met any of them. I couldn't think of any more reasons to object, though, and Bells knew it.
"He's waiting at the front door to introduce himself," she said, probably starting to feel desperate. Startled, I glanced toward the door but couldn't see around the corner. Wow, most boys would have to be dragged kicking to meet their date's parents, even if the dating was getting serious.
"Dad, could you please be nice? It's, uhm, important," Bells asked, sort of whispering. Uh oh, now I was really worried. Since when did Bells care this much about dating? I snapped my rifle shut good and loud, as a time-honored warning to Edward to mind his manners around my daughter. I set the rifle down on the table in plain sight and stood up, turning towards the living room. Bella hesitated, looking at me anxiously, but when I drew an angel halo over my head she went to the front door.
Okay, so Edward looked the picture of nice, respectable, and respectful as he walked in and shook my hand. That wasn't a little hint of a bow, was it? I wore my best stern father face, but it took a little effort to not soften up when he smiled charmingly.
"Hello, Chief Swan. I wanted to introduce myself formally. I'm Edward Cullen."
"Hmm-mmm," I kind of nodded, noticing his very pleasant voice. Bet that helped him get Bella's attention, that and his looks. What girl wouldn't notice a boy like him? But none of that won him any points if he didn't treat my daughter right.
"Bella won't be out late, sir, she's just going to play baseball with my family."
Dang! He didn't seem even slightly nervous. Perfect manners, and his smile could charm me if I let it, which would never happen. Why the hell weren't my intimidation tactics working better?
"Bells is going to play baseball?" I said very doubtfully, knowing how much she loathed playing any kind of sport, and baseball was trickier than most. But at least this meant there would be someone amounting to a chaperone.
"Yes, sir, that's the plan." Bells was looking a bit dubious herself, but obviously she really wanted to go. I was out of stalling tactics, anyway, so just tried not to embarrass her about her famous clumsiness.
"Okay, well, good luck with that. Bring her home by midnight, Edward."
"Yes, sir." Bells smiled thanks, looking very relieved, and steered Edward straight back to the door. I followed, and as he stepped out onto the little concrete porch, I stopped Bells.
"You still got that pepper spray?" I murmured, just loud enough that Edward should overhear.
"Dad!" she gasped, mortified. I just grinned. "Yeah!" she whispered, nodding once and then hurrying outside before I could give them any more trouble...
