Her father was a business man and had to hide identity of his family. He did business with the Russians and got killed not more then a year after Desiree turned ten.

Her mother was a sweet woman and did a lot of work for charity. She never complained, and because of the death of her husband, she remarried a man called stephen. He was not bad, but not a good guy either. He tried to rape Desiree when he wanted sex and couldn't have enough from her mother. Desiree killed the man out of defense and had to run for her life.

She celebrated her eighteenth birthday in the woods all alone. She never complained but felt lonesome. So she went looking for company. She found a woman, her name was Jessy. She was only twelve years old though but Desiree called her a woman because of her experience. Desiree was caught in the red eyes and got bitten, as Jessy promised to take care of her.
