NYSSA LILY-ANNA EMMANUEL
character full name: Nyssa Lily-Anna Emmanuel
alias: noneage: 400/30
birthday: 15th Juneaffiliation: Wystern Coven
status: Seer
eyes: Nyssa has very dark brown eyes, often mistaken for onyx which turn true blue when using her power (so she tends to close her eyes when using her power). They say eyes are the window to the soul but Nyssa's are generally hard to read. She's four centuries old now and what her eyes do reveal is that she's wiser than normal for her apparent years. Her eyes are vacant when she uses her powers, sometimes unfocused, and other times she appears to be very very deep in thought. Sometimes it seems as though she's never truly in the room with you but looking beyond what you think she can see.
Her eyelashes are thick and long. The shape of her eyes is a wide almond.
hair: Nyssa has very dark brown, almost black hair which is down to the middle of her back. It is mostly straight but there is a slight wave in it.
height: five foot eleven
weight: nine stone
distinguishing features: The Birthmark of the Wystern Coven on her thigh.
A tattoo of the all seeing eye on her right wrist.
general appearance: Nyssa is standing tall at five feet nine and nine stone. This means that she is rather slim and is a size eight to ten on all her clothing. She does have natural curves and wouldn't want it any other way.
Her stomach is flat. She is not at all embarrassed by her appearance and will wear bikini's to the beach or the swimming pool if she ever ventures there. Her chest is a 32DD which is a little awkward for bra sizes but she manages.
Her legs are long and firm, and often seen as she usually wears dresses or skirts - trousers and jeans are unusual for her. Her size four feet are often in heels or flats, but always shoes and never trainers. Nyssa wears stilletos and pumps and boots.
Her hands and fingers are small - she is a ring size J on all the ones that matter. She has tiny wrists she can wrap her own fingers around - her thumb and middle finger overlap. She has short nails and doesn't ahve a lot of hair on her arms.
Nyssa's skin is smooth and perhaps a little oily.

ambitions: to maybe one day to learn how to read fluently.
abilities: Aura Seeing: Nyssa can see the Aura of everyone she meets no matter the species. She can offer aroma therapies and quartz stones and gem stones to alter a bad aura which causes bad luck and bad ying and yang.
Post Cognition: Nyssa has the ability to see the past. It is actually easier to see the past rather than the future because it is easier to determine where and when the atoms were in the past than where they will be and when they will be there in the future.
Where there has been a strong psychic scene Nyssa doesn't have to concentrate at all - she will see what happened when she walks in, much like Alice when she decides to watch someone's decisions. Nyssa has, at those moments, no control over what she sees of course or how long it lasts. Nyssa can tell you how long ago it happened and how long the event occurred.
Apart from entering a room, Nyssa can see the past through a personal item worn every day to see what happened to them.
Nyssa can also see the past from touching a person - usually the most recent event that happened to them, or the strongest event to happen if they happen to bothered or thinking about it.
If Nyssa has a picture, in a circle of candles can go into a meditative state to find out what happened to that person. It works best when she has the other person sitting across from her holding hands. If the person is there she can find out almost everything, or target a specific area with clarity. If the person is not there Nyssa cannot find everything out but she can find out general aspects of their life. She can also use taro cards and placid water usually to read her own past or of the covens' - for it to work the bowl must be made of marble because it gives better resonance than wood or glass. If it's glass the pieces all refract inwards and it tends not to work. With an object owned by someone placed at the bottom of the bowl she can concentrate on a single person - the images are fluid but generally relate to what happened with that object.
She can also concoct a potion which when drunk, and with a few chanted words over it, can help those with amnesia recover memories which have been forgotten or just to help unlock old ones which are vague.
Mentalism: It is not a magical ability but the ability to read body language so she can tell when people are lying or being truthful.
Tarot Cards: She's four hundred years old so she's picked up the ability to read tarot cards and palm reading for what happened in the past but also in the future. This can help focus her power to look for something specific in the past or just a general view. The glimpses of the future are rare however and she has to really concentrate to see anything at all. She can see little things like a glimpse of a rose or a date - nothing that is any use without context.
Eidetic Memory: Nyssa can remember 90% of what she hears and 75% of what she sees.
secrets: Nyssa was pregnant when she was just over one hundred but after getting into an altercation she lost the baby and had to give birth to her stillborn.
Wishes she could see the future as she thinks that would be more useful to the coven and life in general.
She's dyslexic.
She has an IQ of 176
personality: Vacant: Nyssa comes across as a spacey, ditzy, dreamy girl who isn't necessarily in touch with the real world. She's found that people do look at her as though she's lost a few marbles but Nyssa is sharp as a tack. Her world is different from the rest of the world's because she deal's with the past so intensely and closely. Nyssa likes to day dream and to read star signs and believes in the power of gem stones which humans tend to find strange. She finds taking a step back from the frantic pressures of reality is rather relaxing...plus people tend to talk around those they think are kinda crazy but harmless. She comes across as distracted and pre-occupied and seemingly finds it difficult to hold a conversation if she is pulled into one - not if she starts one.
Shocking: Nyssa is more or less harmless. She's not violent and is a moral and ethical person. She never tells people that she's seen something of their past if she's just being nosey. Otherwise she'll say things about them just to shock them. Some people don't believe in psychics especially cops and they get very defensive when someone claims they know things without having done research or knowing anything else before hand. Sometimes she likes to shock people, talking in weird sentences that don't necessarily make sense at first because making people think about their problems is the best way to get them to sort through it. People tend to ask seers for advice because of their insight and way at looking at things tends to be different from everyone else.
Proud: She defiant and independent. She doesn't like to ask for help and likes to do things herself even if she struggles with it. For example she doesn't find it easy to read and never has but she hates asking for help and admitting that she finds it a pretty hard task when she's supposed to be able to just do it.
Resilient: This witch has a calm placid and happy. She doesn't take offense easily but when she does it really bugs her for a while. Most of the time she calms down from being annoyed quickly but she never forgets what happened. It is difficult to rile her up and get her angry but when that is achieved she's incensed and vengeful. She's a forgiving girl so it takes a lot to fill her with rage. She's brave and stands up for what she believes in. She'll defend those who need defending if they can't stand up for themselves and prove that she has been paying attention. Nyssa doesn't have to pay attention the same as everyone else because of her ability. Whenever she gets knocked down she gets back up again. She's a tough girl - there's nothing she won't get back up from.
Wise: She's a wise and knowledgeable soul who knows a lot about many things. She's into philosophy and can easily be pulled into a philosophical debate. She's a strong believer that life is made up of shades of grey and that nothing is ever as simple as black and white. She does believe in justice however and that everyone deserves closure when they have been wronged. She's got opinions she tends to share when people ask - sometimes when they don't either. She's insightful too and can read people and tends to know what they are thinking, at least she likes to think she does. She gets it wrong of course but she's arrogant enough to assume she's right.
Private: Nyssa doesn't like to be touched physically, anywhere. Also It's all right for her to look into your past but she definitely doesn't like it when people try digging up hers. She's a very private person who likes to keep her life to herself unless she chooses to share it. The things she shares willingly are usually things that mean very little to her or nothing at all. People might think they have information on her but it's not anything Nyssa would regard as important. It sounds like a lot but in the end it's nothing. She doesn't like people knowing about herself because it makes her feel vulnerable and exposed.
Calm: Nyssa is generally very calm and can keep calm under pressure. She has a good head on her shoulders even when things are tough and stressful. She does not panic easily and takes things in her stride. She is able to tune out those who are panicking and works to impose her calm onto others so they don't lose their heads and act like maniacs. Her calm, however, can make her appear cut off from emotions and rather stoic. Things that should affect her leave her relatively unaffected. She's analytic and very clever and sees the world from the detached point of view, as though she's on the outside looking in. And Nyssa does sometimes feel like everyone is living and she's isolated and watching the past from the future. Sometimes being gifted is a curse.
Arrogant/Confident: Nyssa likes that she knows about people's lives and can use that to shock them and put herself in a position of power. She's confident in verbal situations, bordering on arrogant too. She's believes she can talk herself out a situation without it becoming physical. She's charming when she wants to be. When things become physically violent Nyssa does become unsure and afraid. She doesn't like violence and doesn't condone it either. She's also not got much tact most of the time because she's highly curious about people and assumes she knows why people did what they did, or inquires as to why they did this and that.
Nyssa is normally honest and is a gentle woman. She might be tactless and distant but she's got a good heart and believes in justice fiercely. She can also learn things and absorb information with ease.
Suspicious: Nyssa doesn't trust people easily. Her life has been long and it has been hard. She may seem as though her head is filled with cotton wool but she thinks about everything she does before she does it and analyses what others do to. Maybe thinks too much and over-analyses people's motives and actions. She can't help it. She doesn't expect anyone to do anything for her for free. Everyone has motives, even if that motive is looking good so they can ask for a favour later - a favour they already know they need to ask for. She doubts everyone - it's her way.
mother: Shyla Suranne Emmanuel - wiccan - precog - deceased at 655
father: Ethan William Emmanuel - farmer - deceased at 73
siblings: none
others: Everyone in the coven is important to Nyssa - they are her family.
history:
A/N:: The history is a little long, but she is 400 years old =) to be honest it's longer than I intended lol.
Nyssa was born at midnight on New Year's Eve four hundred years ago. She was born between one year and the next, between one hour and the next and the most magical time for a witch is at midnight. It had been an extremely calm and placid night. The New Year had been celebrated with a day off work and an oddly silent baby. Nyssa only cried as a baby and then as a toddler was pretty much content with what she had - and her mother always saw the crying coming! She didn't even cry when she started teething - much to the jealousy of other mothers who had screaming kids on their hands with complaints of aching mouths.
At first Ethan had no idea that his wife was a witch but when his daughter failed to age at the normal rate he became suspicious and frightened. Children were supposed age quickly, blink and you miss it, and suddenly they were all grown up and leaving you behind. But no...he was going to have a child for decades and then a teen, for decades. After being frightened he was annoyed that he was going to have to raise a child for years and years. However he soon realised that it wasn't so bad. Nyssa continued to mature even if her body didn't to a level about the age of a thirteen year old when she only looked nine. Nyssa turned out to be very mature for her age because her mind continued to learn even if her body didn't.
As a child things could be rough. Coming into her powers was turbulent at best. Seeing a puppy run down the street and bark at a nine year old girl was fine but seeing someone hit by a car was troubling for a little girl. Nyssa suffered nightmares as a child because of her gift, refused to talk for three years. Shyla had not been worried about her daughter's refusal to speak but Ethan had become increasingly agitated. He would yell and she would end up crying, and would shy away from him when she saw those scenes again in the future. Her relationship with her father, as a child, had been tenuous and strained to say the least.
As a young girl she had been frightened by her ability but having a mother who was a precog witch did have its merits. With her guidance she learned not to be frightened by what she saw because it couldn't hurt her. Shyla said it was just a reflection of the past amplified and she was just looking in the mirror. Nyssa did spend five years confused over what was real and what wasn't. She would ask her mother what happened and what it happened. She didn't like asking her dad because he would get frustrated and concerned over her inability to determine what was recent and what was long gone. She was very distant during that period but when she learned the shade of the world that was gone from the one that she was currently living in.
Shyla, her mother, and Nyssa grew very close, much closer than she was with her father. Shyla taught her to grow plants, appreciate life and taught her a moral code. Her father taught her how to farm, milk cows and ride horses. It was only when she had been alive thirty four years that she realised that having a heart on her hip was probably not normal. It was then she learned she was part of the Wystern Coven and when she was older would have the choice to join them or remain as she was - on the outside. She was advised that it was safer to join the Coven than live alone on the outside without protection. It only lead to Nyssa asking why her mother was doing so.
Nyssa learned when she turned 86 that her mother helped a wild vampire target his victims by accident. Against the Coven ways she was exiled leaving her free to pursue other pursuits. Shyla moved to Scotland and became a farmer and a housewife and together with Ethan they had the most profitable farm in their area.
When Nyssa was 100 and looked like a teen she fell for a young man who traded at the local market. They fell in love and got married. It was seven years later before Nyssa fell pregnant. William, her husband, had a business which was doing well and prosperous. Thugs claimed that William had ripped them off when they found out the things they bought were cheaper elsewhere - competitive pricing. Not happy they stormed Nyssa's home knocking her down and roughing her about. Luckily nothing else happened to her besides being roughed about but it did mean that her baby died and Nyssa had to give birth to her still born. William was left lame and they struggled on together. Nyssa could not stand being in the house because she kept seeing what happened and insisted they move.
Her relationship with William was never the same again. She did not want to get pregnant and lose another child and refused to be touched by him, leading to his frustration and infidelity. Nyssa, on the whole was very happy with him, and decided to pretend not to notice his infidelity. Some may call her mad, but she was young and happy to be with someone nice and loving, who did not force her into anything she did not want to do.. She knew that was a rare thing in the world. When William strayed with another man's wife and the man found out, he beat William to death leaving Nyssa a grieving widow, but free from the issue of having to disappear into the night one day to avoid the questions of why she never aged. They were together fifteen years.
Nyssa ended up in a small town on the west of Scotland and used her skills to plant crops. The other maidens taught her how to sow and embroidery - things she should have learned as a child but was learning witchcraft instead. She learned she rather liked sewing and stitching and moved from farming to mending clothing for the village, to being hired by a passing aristocrat who wanted a servant to make clothes for them. Nyssa ended up living in Edinburgh for the next twenty years where they taught her how to read and write. Nyssa, although clever, was never very good at reading but picked up writing well. She wouldn't discover until the early 21st century that she was dyslexic. She was happy there, keeping her head down and practicing her magic at night when no one was looking. With Christianity in such a strong position it seemed unwise to do anything but hide her gifts and hide them she did for a lot of her life.
She then moved to another village claiming her employers were lacking in money to pay her and had to let her go. She was taken in by a benign family who put her to work on the farm. They were getting on in life and needed all the help they could get. The village was raided, the men were killed and the women were taken. Nyssa remained in the village only long enough to gather her belongings and leave, so as not to torture herself with the images. Determined not to allow any man near her again she went to live in a nunnery for a while, to be free of males, and to live in peace. The Nuns all thought her troubled and strange. It was only two years before the witch accusations started and she was run out of the convent fearing her life.
Nyssa, by an amazing stroke of chance ran into a young girl, ragged, tired and by the looks of things running away. Nyssa, the older and more responsible of the two, got them a place in another village, cooking. The village they were in was generally peaceful, with the exception when the men went out drinking. Nyssa and her young friend, Sarah, kept to themselves. Nyssa found Sarah to be spoiled and selfish but managed to get her to see that working was the only way to survive. They cooked in the exchange for a small amount of money and roof over their heads. It was four months before their village was searched by the champions of the king who was searching for his defiant daughter who ran away. She was just 16 years old and found in Nyssa's company. They were both taken to the castle. Vouched for by Sarah who expressed great gratitude, Nyssa became Sarah's personal maid. Sarah allowed her to wear her old dresses, and served as her confidante and attended feasts as her maid. Nyssa loved working in the Castle for Sarah. Life had been simple but hard up until that point and she found life considerably easier at the castle. She learned a lot of things there too - she learned how to tidy a room in just ten minutes, how to ride a horse, how to hunt, how to shoot arrows. She stayed there for thirteen years before she vanished. She left only Sarah a not saying that she loved her, but she was sorry and she had to go. She left her all her dresses barring two and travelling clothes and a dagger.
Nyssa then decided to seek out the Wystern Coven, to live with her kind, and to learn more about being a witch. She met a man on the boat over who was using her as an alibi and framed her for theft. Nyssa spent a third of the journey locked in her room before being taken into custody and sent to jail for a year for the theft of jewellery of a woman she had never even seen, who was probably committing adultery with the man who framed her. She had just been trying to be polite because he started talking to her. Once free in America (the boat was American, so technically she committed the crime on american soil).
When nyssa was free she continued to look for the coven. She was so very happy when she found them. Nyssa then discovered the existence of werewolves and shifters and got exact details on the cold ones. She felt totally at home at last. Nyssa socialised gently but mostly kept to herself. Life had been hard for her and so she kept herself back, rather than open.
She put herself through school, after forging a birth certificate and studied philosophy, psychology and English. She majored in Psychologist and is trying to get herself a job as one. Nyssa also occasionally loans herself out to police for missing people or other cases.

She doubts everyone - it's her way.

Wesley did have a point. It was a shame then, that Doyle mostly only sympathised, or empathised for that matter, with hybrids. Hybrids were born out of necessity by demons wanting to prolong their blood lines. That was the reason his dad got his mother pregnant. A lot of species of demons could only reproduce through humans because there were no females of that species. You didn’t get female brachens, for reasons Doyle had no idea. Maybe Harriet had dug into that, but Doyle just hasn’t wanted to know that the time and he guessed he still didn’t want to know why. Why just wasn’t important anymore. It was what it was. Doyle wasn’t interested in the mechanics. ”No one species is perfect. Though each species likes to think they are,” Maybe that was a dig at humans. He was too tired to care. He wasn’t human, but ht wasn’t demon either and for a while he thought that was best. Being neither was more difficult than the others could imagine. He had borne the brunt of being considered lower than even a human the last time around. It had gotten to him and ground down on his already low opinion.
Doyle had had a crushingly low opinion of himself. Catholicism had suited him while it lasted and then it ruined him. Realising he was a demon, an actual demon, went against all his beliefs and told him he was going straight to hell – no matter what he did. That couldn’t be true. Hell was reserved for the tarnished souls who did bad things to bad people or good people – it didn’t matter. Damage to your soul was damage to your soul either way. ”How could I not? I was brought up by my highly religious mother in Ireland.” Doyle knew only the Catholic way for most of his life. He was just a kid when his life was flipped upside down – heck, he was still a kid really. He missed four years of his life. He lost them to the demon. Then he was dead for a couple of years and now he was back, twenty four years old and he felt so old. Was that normal? He felt so old and yet so young at the same time. Doyle shook his head and immediately regretted it. He leaned on Wesley while his head swam. ”Just didn’t think it was right, that Angel should die. He still had battles to fight.” And he couldn’t allow more hybrids to die because of his inaction. He had saved his own life that day but he had done it for them. It may sound noble to Wesley now, but would it sound noble when he discovered he had let a family of Brachens die? Would he believe he then deserved death? The Powers didn’t think it was that easy. He had been punished for four years for his inaction. Inaction was sometimes worse than action.
Doyle groaned in pain. ”I’m not a warlock,” he said. ”I’ve never really casted any magick before. I can’t even expel a ghost from a flat,” Doyle said. Doyle was glad they stopped. He kept hold of Wesley anyway. He didn’t feel too steady on his feet. ”He wants me alive to show no one is safe. And I couldn’t perform magick last time. I was so terrified he’d figure out I was holding something back,” Doyle closed his eyes as his head swam. ”He’s trapped the soul, probably not his idea. That’s why the powers stepped in. Loophole created when the First started showing its non-corporeal ass again. All we need to do is release it, then it’s the normal ritual. Problem is I don’t know what casing it’s in. Probably glass, but...” Doyle said, panting, out of breath.
