There were times when Jasper wondered if being a father to a younger vampire was a smart decision especially at a time like this. A simple hunting trip had brought up a concern in his mind that needed to be addressed before he became extremely paranoid. He knew that it had been an accident that no one could have avoided unless they had Alice’s power, but it didn’t change the severity of it. Now he was going to have to have a talk with his daughter about what had occurred in order to find out how much it had impacted her.
Of course, Jasper didn’t want to have this conversation in front of everyone else because it might blow up into a group session, and that would just make it seem like they were ganging up on her. This is why he left a message for Bree to meet him at the lake so they could have some father-daughter time, which was technically true. There last major discussion had occurred when that Richard fellow had shown up, so it was probably time for them to have another one. The fact that this incident had occurred around the same time as his needing to talk to her was completely coincidental.
While he waited for her to show, Jasper was trying to formulate exactly what they were going to talk about, which really meant how he was going to breach the conversation about the hunting trip. Why did things like this have to be so difficult? Why couldn’t he just ask the dreaded question without needing to ease his way into it? Jasper pondered these questions while leaning against a tree that and facing the lake. He could hear someone approaching, so he knew that the time was almost there.

She had been a mess since that day when she had gone out with Emmett and come close to drinking human blood she let out a small sigh as she got into her car and drove towards the lake where Jasper had asked to meet. Getting out of the car she walked towards the lake and swallowed a lump in her throat as she looked at the ground and soon came upon her father who was sitting by the water “hey dad” her voice was quiet as she hugged him gently and then sat down “how are you?” she asked her voice so quiet.
She knew that she had upset him and would get in trouble for what it was worth she knew that it was coming and had expected it. She paused as she leaned against him and rested her head against his shoulder and closed her golden eyes. She had not snapped and drank human blood at least which she had some pride left even if it was only a small bit. She closed her eyes and kissed his cheek gently “I…couldn’t help it” she said after a few moments and hung her head. The smell had been to much and she had let herself be pulled towards the scent it had driven her crazy to a point as she glanced at the ground and sighed sadly.
She had always prided herself with her control as long as she had been a vampire taking the time and practice that they had been through she shuddered “I…couldn’t stop myself from going after them the blood it just threw me out of whack next thing I know” she looked down she had been standing over the human and had been ready to tare their throat out and drain them dry the thought made her sick to her stomach even now the thought made her throat burn and she looked down ashamed of it.

The sound of her approached signaled to him that Bree was on her way to this very spot, but he didn’t say anything until she made the first move which came in the form of a hug. “Hello Bree.” While her voice was quiet, his voice was a little louder. “Hello Bree. I am fine, but I think the more important question is how you are?” He didn’t need to read her thoughts to know what her main concern was, which was how he was feeling about what had happened to her. Jasper knew what the common reaction to this situation might be in a normal family, but his was far from normal.
“I know you couldn’t help it.” There was no way that he could be angry with her for chasing the scent of human blood especially when his own experiences were far worse. It wasn’t like she had actually drank their blood, but it did show that they had some things to work on. Of course, that was going to be a completely different conversation for a completely different time. He could feel her sadness, and the only thing that Jasper wanted to do was make her feel better. Of course, he didn’t want to make her feel better with his powers because that wouldn’t mean anything after he left her alone. Jasper needed to walk her through what happened to show her that she had done him proud.
“Just go through what happened with me, so I can know how you felt especially when you walked away from it.” If only he had been with Alice at the time that it had happened, then he would have been able to be there for her the moment that it had happened, but Jasper had been keeping tabs on the new vampires in the area just to make sure that there wasn’t going to be any problems.

The shock that ran through her when he said that he was not angry was enough to knock over a elephant as she hugged him tightly and pressed her head against his shoulder sighing quietly. She stayed there for a few moments and slowly relaxed and listened to him as he spoke about wanting to understand as she glanced up and took a breath and shook her head “I don’t want to relive that” she whispered and shook her head a small shudder running through her body as she looked down and swallowed the lump in her throat as she closed her golden eyes and stayed near him curling up slightly against his side “I…I’m sorry but I cant” she whispered.
She had always prided herself when it came to control and now it had been robbed from her as she looked down. The one emotion that she was feeling had to be shame as she looked down and swallowed “I…just came across this scent that I couldn’t resist while we were hunting I lost Emmett while he took off and thought I would be okay until then” she frowned “the human had gotten hurt and when I saw him…my whole body went into autopilot it seemed and next thing I knew I was leaning down couldn’t pull away” she whispered quietly “I…I wanted so badly to stop but I couldn’t” she would be in tears if vampires could produce them as she looked down.
She slowly rested her head against his shoulder again and shook her head “I don’t know what to do” she said after a few moments and swallowed slowly glancing at him after a few moments “I…will do better next time” she said quietly. She didn’t sound confident and it showed as she looked into his eyes and took a breath to calm herself although it didn’t feel like it was working.to her as she fell deeper and deeper towards depression her eyes sad.

There were things that Jasper wished that he could do, but he knew that they were beyond the realm of possibilities. One thing that he wished for was the ability to take away painful memories, which would be useful to the majority of his family. Bree’s refusal to reliving what had happened was something that Jasper could understand, but not confronting it would just make the feeling worse. Of course, Jasper couldn’t force her to go through the events that led up to what had happened because that would also make it worse. No, it had to be a decision that Bree made in order to make things a little easier on her.
Then, she started to go through what had happened, which was a good sign in Jasper’s eyes because it meant that she was facing something that frightened her. He could feel the shame that she felt for chasing the scent of human blood, but it would have happened to a lot of vampires that wouldn’t have had the strength to abstain from actually drinking the blood of the human. “But you did stop Bree. You stopped right before crossing the line that separates us from the rest of our kind, which is what shows that you are progressing at a much faster rate than most that have chosen to be like us.” What he had meant to say was faster rate than him, but it was better for her to know that she was doing better than more than just one person.
Jasper wrapped his arm around her and smiled. “For one so you, you are doing as well at controlling yourself as those of us with decades of experience, and try not to worry about the next time that a situation like this might happen. It could be ten days to ten years until the next time that you are faced with such a challenge.” Her sadness was as potent as the scents of the animals in the area, and Jasper was tempted to make her feel better with his gift but that wouldn’t help anything.
