Lan had left Heidi for a while. It had taken some work, both to convince her and himself. He was now stood in the centre of a clearing, the forest looming in around this small pocket of luscious grassland, flowers swaying in the breeze, grass tickling his skin so softly like feathers. Right then he knew what life was about, Heidi, this and forgiving his own kind for past grievances, learning to trust to keep her safe and that was why he was here. He had left so many traces around the Cullens home, all paths leading here. He knew only one of them had been home but he anticipated maybe three if not four of them coming here, one of them being the seer and also most likely the shield and her husband too. Maybe even the empath.
He had two reasons for being here, to test them and ask their aid. He knew they had already been turned down by Heidi but now she had no choice because he had already made it, they needed the Cullens especially when Lan wanted a chance at the Pure ones, why not be part of one of the largest covens and maybe even become part of the family, trusted and protected. It was what he wanted, not for himself but for her, she was ALL that mattered in his life, he hadn't kept any secrets from her but he only 'fessed' up if asked, this was one thing he hadn't given her a chance to ask about. He knew that her knowledge of his plans was pretty sound but what she didn't know was the Cullens were around again and Lan knew it.
He sighed as he spun in the centre of the small clearing, he knew if they didn't want to help but more to fight in the unlikely even at least three of them would fall prey to his gift and his odd and exceptional strength even for a vampire. He looked around once more when he caught the scent and sat down slowly, marshaling all his instincts and senses to create a bubble of calm, now began the pleas for help, something that wounded Lan's pride but he would honor Heidi and honor these vampires as they were rumored to deserve.

Bree was out and about running through the forest her eyes closed. She had been outside most of the time since she had kissed Edward unsure of how they stood now. She spoke with him when she knew that they could be alone and a part of her still longed for him and to hold him as she had not to long ago. Taking a breath she walked down the way and slowed down as she smelled someone a vampire that she didn’t recognize as she took a breath and started her way to walk towards it keeping his pace cautious as she swallowed the lump in her throat and soon saw him as she walked over “hello” she said and kept her voice friendly yet cautious as she kept a good distance between them. She was still unnerved about vampires and it showed in her eyes as she watched him carefully.
She had always been this way since she had been turned and even then it had been around humans due to a abusive father “my name is Bree Cullen” she said after a few moments. She found herself interested as she leaned against the wall and watched him carefully her eyes calm but also guarded. She knew her last name held some power but did not throw it around with authority instead it was her introducing herself in a calm and polite manner “what is your name?” she asked him. She had never seen him before in the area which meant he had to be a good hider or someone that was new to the area of which she was not sure.
Resting her hands inside her pockets she took a breath and relaxed slowly finding something calming about the area “do you live in the city?” she asked after a few moments. The family would have to be told about this one as with every new vampire that came into the area. Fred had been the last known one in the area that she had heard of but more and more it seemed they were coming to the city to find a peaceful life but still it was bothersome with the pure ones waiting in the wings they all had to watch who they trusted in the long run and that would include people who just stopped by randomly. Staring at him for a moment she glanced away something told her that he was not a pure one but she could be wrong…she had been in the past.

Lan knew she was right on top of him metaphorically when she spoke and he nodded to himself, opening his eyes which were a brilliant gold as he had only hunted mere hours ago. He held his cool as she introduced himself and calmly replied "Lan Mandragoran." before he stood and continued "A Cullen, good. Yes before you ask I have been in the area a while, hidden.
He shook his head when she asked about whether he lived in the city and smiled slightly "I live in the forest, feel free to ask one of your family to track down where I have been hiding but, I drew you here to ask for your help. I believe Heidi Volturi approached the Cullens not long ago? well .. I am her mate. I am asking for your help even though she denied it .. for her sake mostly. I didn't know about the pure ones until she told me and now I am concerned about her safety."
He sighed and paused looking down before he hissed "I want to tear them to shreds, I am sure your coven think similarly about the slime .. but my obligation is to Heidi."

Bree watched him as he spoke and stiffened at the name Volturi easily the dislike came to her face “no thank you we want nothing to do with her or the others” she said simply as she stared at him. The coolness of her voice was surprising when it came down to it as she looked at the new person “they attacked us more then one time and we have no reason to go after trouble that has not come our way” she said simply. She knew that she sounded rude but things could not be forgotten or forgiven she had been on their chopping block twice and had no desire to help the monsters at all almost glad that they were gone.
She paused hearing he was his mate “I wish you well my advice is to become nomads and hope they don’t want her dead” she said softly her voice softening slightly. She knew she should not hold grudges Heidi had never really been a problem to her in the past but still the thought of them bothered her and to a point scared her and bothered her to a point where she had said no when asked what she had thought on the matter the group as a whole bothered her and most of the family but she was willing to listen.
She paused as she leaned against the tree and sighed “her friends wanted me dead twice I am sorry but I am not the one you want to talk to” pursing her lips she paused “my grandfather is the one who can help you” she said finally. She doubted he would trust them but it was not her place to say anything about it. She was being honest and that was what mattered to her as she stared at him “the pure ones have been around a year and you just heard of them?” she asked raising a eyebrow at him.

Lan frowned when she said it wasn't her that he needed speak to and he frowned. He couldn't help but worry, he knew Carlisle was compassionate, Lan looked at the girl and sighed before he whispered "I was once on the chopping block at the hand of Volturi, I hate myself for my affections to her. I ... I Don't honestly know what to do with myself."
Lan frowned and mulled over her advice and he shook his head, he knew the risks well enough and he spoke softly "The nomadic life is not appropriate, it is what they will expect. They expect us to be nomadic and rejoin with the survivors and well .. they have no idea about me as I didn't about them. For years I have avoided all contact with any form of life bar my animal prey." he shook his head again, he did hate himself for loving her but he had to find a way to protect her.

He had been in the chopping block as well he said as she glanced up a bit surprised “yet you stay by her why is that?” she asked softly. A small amount of shock showing on her face as she watched him. How could anyone ever be like that where they could forgive someone who had at one time meant to honestly destroy them she paused “I just don’t understand they were monsters and part of me is glad that they are gone at least they have not come to the area to hurt anyone I doubt that we are in danger at least now anyway” she admitted and shook her head. She had no idea if they would but right now things were normal which was always a plus in her book.
He had avoided people now it made since as she turned and looked at him and walked over and touched his cheek “how long?” she asked keeping her voice a tad bit softer “you cant hide here forever the world has changed over the years you may like it” she paused as she offered him her hand after a moments pause “come on let me show you” she offered giving him a true smile. She was in a good mood and it was easy to see that she wanted to help him in some way or another “come on you’ll love it” she grinned as she waited to see how he would respond to this she hoped he would open up in someway or another.

Lan looked at her and sighed when she asked why he stayed with her. She had hit the nail on the head, why? Because she had to believe people could change. Heidi was not the woman he should love and he partly doubted she loved him. It was not what he wanted at all. HE looked straight into Bree's eyes as he replied "Because through all my hate, I have to. I absolutely have to believe she can change. That I can change." then he looked away, ashamed of himself for those words.
When she touched his cheek his eyes moved back up to her and he whispered "Long enough that once I walked into a city to find high rise where once there were dirt hovels in Europe, long enough my home has been wiped off the map by a growing mountain." then he sighed. Shame still in his eyes. The idea of being out in the world scared him beyond anything else. He looked at her and mumbled "I am not sure that is ... wise, I ... I know human nature as much as I know vampire nature ... there are few exceptions ... you ..."

She could see the sadness in his eyes as he spoke and listened quietly to him and nodded “I hope you do help her” she said after a few moments and truthfully. She hoped that things would work out for them even though she knew that the past would not easily heal. Seeing the look on his face she walked over and hugged him “you will be okay” she assured him and smiled. Taking a step back she paused and watched him carefully as she took a step backwards and watched him carefully. It had been odd meeting him but she believed that he was not a bad guy and hoped he would fix the woman and maybe she would not be a complete lost cause.
She listened about how long he had been out of the main stream and paused “come on” she said softly “it will be okay” she assured him “yes and they cant hurt us were safe you don’t have to worry about them” she assured him. She would do anything to make sure he wouldn’t be trapped here she paused and thought of something “you really cant help her if your always in the forest” she pointed out as she brushed her hair from her eyes and watched him. She hoped that he would see sense and would at least give it a chance “not everyone is a bad person” she pointed out her voice soft. She knew what it was like to live in fear and it sucked she wanted to help him but was mostly lost on how to do it. Taking a breath she shook her head and rested her hands inside of her pockets and watched him curious but also giving him space in case he needed it.

Lan froze when the young one hugged him. He looked at the ground and sighed. His arms crossed as he looked back up at her and whispered "You know once I was in line to be Volturi, but my gift added nothing compared to the twins. So they remained and I was sentenced to death for my efforts, one of their number had saved me so I had a debt to repay. That was the day I learned honor is a lie. There is no honor or justice and so few deserve the gifts they get, I am not one of the few."
He looked grimly at her and held out his hand taking hers, he bowed and kissed he knuckles "For what honor I have I am Lan Mandragoran, old courtesies die hard. I hope I haven't offended you" he said as he let her hand go again.
