South shall rise again( emmett, Jasper)

It was a cold dreary day in March and spring was approaching. You could find Emmett either in the front room watching any kind of sports was on tv. His favorite was football and basketball. His team of choice was of course the Volunteers of Tennesse. You could also find him in his room trying to keep his mind in the present.

His current location was his room looking at his window thinking about his Southern roots. he was not the only Cullen that was a southerner. The other one was his brother Jasper.He did not consider himself much of a Southerner , well at least not as much as Jasper. He fought for his country and the south,.

He wished he did not have to leave his home . They could have left him there in a remote location. It could have been somewhere away from his hometown where no one would know who he was. He wondered what his brother was doing now. He probably was thinking about the sane stuff Emmett was doing..

He went to his closet and found a old Tennesse Jersey from the past. It still fit because his physique barely changed at all. He took his white t-shirt off and placed the jersey over his head and pulled it down.He found a old Tennessee hat and placed it on his head. He knew he had a tape of some various tennesse fight songs. He fiddled around in his nightstand and finally found it. he opened the cd drive and pladclosed it. he pressed play and the tunes of the past started playing.

He knew this would more than likely get jasper's attention, He was hoping it would because he wanted to talk to his brother.

There was one major dislike about being a vampire that Jasper had found out a few decades after being turned, and that was having near perfect memory. While in some instances, it could be seen as an advantage, but for Jasper it was like being able to call up a nightmare. It wasn’t the wars that got him, but the fact of all the people that he had harmed when he was first starting out.

Jasper didn’t usually dwell on these memories, but the sound of some fight songs of old was drawing him like a flame did to a moth. As he was outside, Jasper had to first enter the house to find where the music was coming from, but he had a feeling that he already knew where to go. He began heading upstairs toward the room from whence the music was coming from.

His brother, Emmett, was the only other true Southerner in the house, so checking his room was the most reasonable course of action for Jasper. As he got closer to the room, Jasper began picking up some slightly depressing vibes coming from it. It seemed that someone was thinking about a life that they had long ago, which was probably not the most healthy of things especially for those like them.

Once he was at the doorway, Jasper peered in and proceeded to lean against the frame. He knew that Emmett knew that he was standing there, but it was polite to make one's prescence officially known to the other person in the room. "So are you having fun listening to times that are forgotten by most of the world?"

Emmett was so engulfed into listening to his music and wearing his Volunteers paraphelnia laying down on his bed. That he did not see his brother standing in the doorway. He caught jasper's scent but he did not know how close it was so he did not get up and look. He wanted to wait and see if Jasper's scent was coming closer. As Emmett thought the scent did become closer and then he saw his brother Jasper standing in his doorway.

"So are you having fun listening to times that are forgotten by most of the world?"

Emmett heard his brother speak and Emmett replied with" hey jazz I take it you heard my old Southern music. I hope you enjoyed the music and as you can see i am living in the past. I got my college stuff on.I hope i did not bother you. If i did i am sorry and i can always turn this music down. Sure bro the past can be good and it can also be bad. Maybe we can raise some hell and show this town how a party really should be. I feel bad that my brothers and parents passed away or so i have been told.Do you know if any of your family relatives are still alive.I wish we could revisit our pasts but stay out of sight so we do not get noticed by possible past memories.

Emmett’s response to his question made Jasper wonder if his brother was being sarcastic. Of course he had heard the music since he had been close by and had excellent hearing. “It didn’t bother me. Just made me wonder what exactly you were doing.” As he feared, his brother was in a mood that he had read about in some books and seen a few times. For the life of him, Jasper couldn’t remember if there was a name for it, but he knew that it was mainly centered on trying to relive one’s youth.

“I am not sure that this town could take it if we were to raise some hell, and I don’t think that Forks would be the most ideal place for a Southern Party.” Even in such a small town, it was still closer to the current time than to what either one of them was used to. Then the conversation moved on to a subject that probably showed that his brother was not really filtering through what he said. “It has been over a hundred years, Emmett. Any relatives that I might have would not know me or know of me, and the only people who would recognize me might try to kill me.” Jasper was referring to any vampires from his past that still held a grudge from what he did, but most of them had probably died or moved on to better things. “These are probably not the responses that you want to hear, and for that I am truly sorry.”

Emmett listened to his brother's response to the silly question. Then he said" That was a stupid question because any vampire could have heard my music seeing as we have great hearing.I am just trying to remember my past and i know other people had bad pasts and would not want to remember them. I had a good lifeand I did not ask to get mauled by a bear or could not say yes or no about being turned." As Emmett stopped talking jasper started to talk and he said that he was not sure that the town could not handle them if they were to raise some hell. Then he continued to say that he did not think Forks would be a ideal place for a southern party. Then Emmett responded withSo you would stop me from relieving my past in any way possible and any way i wanted to.Since Forks could not handle us maybe we should go somewhere else to have fun. I am getting sick and tired of being cooped up around here and i casnt even find my wife and who knows what she is doing."

Emmett continued with" The only family members i have seen much of are nessie who wants to be called mae now,and bella who shys away from seeing her father because she made a rushjob decision to be turned. Others are also you , and the last one is bree. I have not even seen my daughter aroiund lately so what else is there to be happy about." Jasper started speaking by saying how long is had been since either of them had seen there family and he was sorry for the responses he was telling his brother because they were probably not what Emmett wanted to hear. Emmett said" Sorry brother i guess the past memories latched onto me and changed me for a little bit.

Jasper listened dutifully to his brother’s comments about the way that one’s life shaped how one would grow, while also noting that Emmett seemed to be lost in his past because of his lack of connection to anyone in the present. While it was true that most of the time the Cullens were off in their own individual worlds, Jasper was not sure why Emmett was unable to spend time with Rosalie. Knowing her, she was out looking for a sports car or something, but he had no way of knowing why there was such a distance between Emmett and her.

There was a moment of silence where Jasper could have said something, but he refrained from it. He wanted to hear all that Emmett had to say before making another comment that might darken the mood in the room. The next segment of Emmett’s comments was about everyone that he had interacted with recently, which included Jasper’s daughter. It seemed that there were a lot of things that Jasper didn’t know about certain members of the family that might be important. There had to be something that could be done to bring the whole family together, but he was going to have to consult with his wife about it. Jasper didn’t trust the ability of weathermen to predict when a storm was coming.

“Maybe it isn’t your memories that are changing you, but a need to know. I think that all this reminiscing through old clothes and semi-old music is a way at trying to see how you could have been, and while I may not particularly want to visit my roots maybe you should.” Jasper wasn’t sure visiting the old homestead was going to fix the feelings that Emmett was having, but it couldn’t hurt for his brother to go back. It wasn’t like anyone was going to be able to recognize him now anyway, since it had been so long.

As Emmett was enjoying some good music and wearing some clothing from one of the best southern state his brother was standing in the doorway of his bedroom. When there was a moment of silence when someone had a chance to speak about anything and probably on their mind no one spoke up. Emmett had started speaking about certain family members and he saw jasper’s expreession on his facew and emmett was thinking about what jasper was probably thinking especially if he had any comments about Bree who was jasper and alice’s adopted daughter. Emmett knew that jasper and alice had a nice daughter just like emmett and rose’s daughter.. Emmett spoke up and said” jasper you and alice are doing a great job raising Bree as if she was your biological daughter.’

Jasper mentioned that it is maybe not emmett’s memories that are changing him nut his desire to know stuff about his past. Emmett said” maybe it is a little bit of memories and need to know wrapped up in one bundle, No one really knows the true answer about anything and everything. Emmett said” What if I did want tro relive my past and see what I missed between the day I got turned and now. Don’t you ever stop to think about possible things you failed to see or realize because you had a new life which was possibly better trhan the old one.. Ifd I ever do go back to my old homestewad I would not want to go alone. It would probably not be safe for anyone around me that don’t know what I am.

Emmett’s comment about how Jasper and Alice were raising Bree made Jasper smile at the thought of the fact that he was a pretty good father. He knew that such a thing would not have been conceivable before he had met Alice. His life had made him cold until Alice had come along to change him for the better, which is why he knew that the life he had now was ten times better than the life he could have had when he was human. “I guess we both got lucky that we found such easy daughters to manage.” Of course, finding them hadn’t been the difficult part of the parenting process, but teaching them what it meant to be a vegetarian vampire.

“There were many things that I did fail to see, but they were things that I missed noticing when I was a human as well as when I was with Maria. I never seemed to notice the downward spiral I was on being a part of the Confederate army or while leading a newborn army, but once I realized it I knew that if I didn’t get out I would become a real monster.” The sheer savagery of his life had been enough to make him promise himself never to go back to such a way of living for any reason, but Emmett’s past wasn’t as dark as Jasper’s was so if he wanted to see what his life could have been life it would be of no real consequence. “If you take someone with you, then make sure that it is someone that you trust to keep you out of trouble.”

As Emmett praised Jasper on how Jasper and Alice had been raising up their adopted daughter he saw Jasper smile and Emmett knew that it had made Jasper happy. Who wouldn’t be happy to know that they were raising up a child right. Although Emmett could not read minds he could probably guess that Jasper was probably giving most of the credit on that issue to his wife alice. Emmett was not sure but he had a pretty good guess. Emmett asked Jasper” You think that since the Volturi are no more that we can still feel safe because of the new threat that has arrived? I know that the new coven may not be as strong as the Volturi but they still could get bigger over time.Have you seen Alyssa anywhere lately? I forget if she told me she would be somewhere for a while or not.I guess if it is not one thing that is screwy it is the other.”

Then Jasper said that there was many things he failed to see when he had been human and under maria’s control. He had been blind so to speak of what was being the wrong thing to do. Emmett said” Jasper we all have been blind to something that waqs not quite right but we must have done the right thing because all of us are here .”Then Jasper spoke on the issue that emmett had brought up about his past. Emmett said” I decided against it. It would only cause confusion and possible trouble and we don’t need that around our family. If I ever did go there I would bring someone along with me to stay out of trouble as you put ity.”

With the Volturi gone, there was a new threat to their coven that they definitely needed to worry about, but Jasper was unsure if the threat that this new group was to the same caliber as the Volturi had been. It all depended on what plans that this group had made or were going to make, which only one person would be able to tell when they were and what effect they would have on the Cullens. “Only time will tell us whether or not this new coven will pose a greater problem for us than the Volturi had, but it is definitely a possibility that we have to keep in mind. And no, I haven’t seen Alyssa around lately, but my attention has been occupied with Bree and the new vampires in the area.”

Emmett was correct in saying that they must have followed the correct course of events because they had all ended up together with their soul mates, but that didn’t stop Jasper from wondering if a different path might have led him to the same point. Of course, he would have lacked the knowledge of how to handle the newborn army that they faced, which would have made things a lot more difficult for them. “If only the journey had been a little more pleasant.”

Jasper was unsure if Emmett was right that his traveling to discover his roots would cause confusion to the family. He knew that it might cause some tension to rise among certain members of their coven, but he was pretty sure that Emmett’s reasons would be understood. “You mean, we don’t need any more trouble or confusion around our family. You have to admit that we attract it like moths to a flame.”
