* charlie was watching a taped baseball game that was among the several games he could revisit when ever he wanted to. Then his phone buzzed and he answered it and it was his deputy. Charlie said" This is Charlie and what is going on. " The deputy said that he received a tip that a possible child that had been reported missing in the past could be in the Forks area. Charlie asked" Ok what is the address and i will check it out. " Then the deputy gave him the address and charlie's face bacame shadowed with shock. Charlie asked" Are you sure that the address is right?"The deputy said" That is what the tip said" Then charlie got up and grabbed his keys on the way to the cruiser. He walked to the cruiser and started it up. He backed out of the driveway and then turned the radio on.

Then he drove towards the address given and he still did not want to believe that the cullens were harboring a previously missed child. After about 10 minutes he arrived at the address and drove up the driveway. He parked in front of the house. He got out and stood there looking forward. He shook his head and then walked to the house. He knocked on the door. He waited a few minutes and the door opened up and charlie said" Pardon me but i have been notified about a possible runaway child living here. The name would have been Bree Tanner. Is there any one by that name here.

She had been sitting in the kitchen when she heard someones car come up the drive way counting the clicks she frowned not recognizing it as she glanced up and set her book down. They were coming up the way and it bothered her more then it should. It was probably just a lost human anyway, brushing her hair from her eyes she listened to the mans footsteps as he came up the way and then the scent hit her…Charlie she had seen him a few times but had never become close to him maybe friends but that was about it. Hearing his knock she waited for a few moments and then walked up to the door thinking he was here for Bella or Nessie. Brushing her hair from her eyes she opened the door “hey Charlie how are you?” she asked as she leaned against the door. God his scent was sending her into a frenzy almost as she watched him.

Then came the shock of her life as he said that he was looking into a disappearance but the biggest one had to be when he brought up her name “Hello to you to Charlie” she said her voice soft. She didn’t show how surprised that she was as she heard his question and was curious about how she had been tracked since she had been taken from Seattle but she could tell he was being serious on this “come in officer Swan” she said after a few moments. She hoped he would not recognize her from any photos that he may have seen. The change had done her good in many ways she paused and led him inside the house and found a place to sit down setting her book away for the moment after book marking her spot “sorry I was doing homework that Esme gave me” she admitted after a few moments.

She had been avoiding his question for a few moments “its me” she said after a few moments as she looked at him. She knew that she may get in trouble for this “Charlie…I am not going to lie to you about things of what happened besides the fact you need to know that their is a lot more then you would want to know going on" she hinted at him remembering that he had asked that he be left out of the loop in most things “this would be one of those I promise you that I am not being harmed here and I am safe… and happy there is a reason that I ran from home years ago and I am happy here” she said and stared into his eyes. The thought of her past made her cringe as she looked at the floor “he abused me…beat me for years before I ran” her voice was so small and her body shook at the memory “I…wont go back to him Charlie…I cant” he said as she looked at him her eyes sad.

As Charlie was standing at the door of the cullens house he began to wonder what the chance of him finding a runaway staying at the cullens house seeing as the cullens has all those adopted children.Then the door opened up and charlie saw a young kid and she had brown hair and it was long. The kid leaned on the door as she asked charlier how he was. Then after Charlie spoke she replied with a hello to him and charlie had a serious look on his face and he was ushered in and she said to please come on in and so he did.As they both sat down he saw her move some books away and then she apologized and said that she had been doing somer homework that esme had given to her.Then he realized that she had been home schooled and so he nodded. Then the answer that he was afraid that he would hear finally came out as she said that the missing girl that he was looking for was her. Hew was about to speak but she beat him to the punch as she explained that she did not want to lie about things that there was a lot more that went on than he would want to know.Then Charlie said: Well that did not involve missing children. I take issuesw like that real serious. I am afraid that i do need to know . At least about the reason you disappeared from your family and ended up here."Then she said that this was one time that she ot been harmed and that she was safe .She also said that there was a reason why she left home and is happy where she is at. Then she finished off with the faxct that she had been abused and that she would not go back . Charlie said" that may be true and abuse is a very bad thing but something nhas to be done . I can not turn a blind eye to this issue . I am not saying that you are not safe here because that would be a lie.

Bree closed her eyes and slowly sat back where she was, there it was out that she had been abused by her father and somewhat she felt like a weight had been taken off her shoulders in that one instant where she could feel safe “Charlie” she said after a few moments knowing that she would have to be honest here as much as possible to a point “you have to understand that I ran away because I was tired of being his punching bag the Cullen family…found me when I was probably at my weakest point and saved my life otherwise I would be dead by now and not sitting by you” she reached across her hand touching his hand for a moment and sighed “yes it is your job to find me and you did but dragging this out so many years later…it won’t change anything besides just bring back the bad memories I never wanted to be found” she said quietly.
She had made peace with what had happened to her those few years ago when she had become a vampire. Closing her eyes she swallowed “I left the house those years ago to get free of him and managed to be found by Carlisle and Esme when I was almost starved and they took me in” she said quietly “I have never been forced to stay here Charlie and in fact if I wanted to I could leave but this is my home and my family…they are more to me then my father ever was and I hope you understand that in bringing this up you could hurt a lot of people I don’t want to go up and say what happened and prove a case…it’s over and done” she said quietly “I just want to move on with my life…is that such a bad thing?” she asked him after a few moments.
Resting her hands on her legs she paused and shook her head “I am sorry” she said quietly. She knew that she should do more and who was to say that her father had not hurt someone else when she had been away she had no idea and the fact made her feel guilty all at one time as she swallowed the lump in her throat as she looked at the ground and tilted her head to the side “maybe I should have done more but even thinking of seeing him scares me to death…I cant do it” she whispered so quietly it was barely above a whisper.

Charlie had found out by Bree’s own words that she had been one of the runaways that he had been looking for. What would make what he had to decide even harder was the reason why Bree had ran away. She had been abused like most of the cases that fell into police’s hands. Then she reached over and grabbed his hand while saying That Charlie did his job in searching for her and finding her. She also said that she never wanted to be found. Charlie got up and walked over to the window and said” So I am supposed to turn a blind eye to all this just because there seems to be more going on here than I need to know. Is that just about sum it up Bree? I never thought I would have to break the law in order to do something right or something safe.” he takes a breather while she talks and when she is done he starts up with”It is not A bad thing until someone that has sworn to uphold the law for as long as he is sheriff has to break it in order to protect the well being of another person.”

Charlie continued with” I can believe that the Cullens would never force anyone to stay when that person did not want to. They are not like that but not bringing this case up could get me in trouble if anyone were to find out the details of what is going on right now. The fact that I have before me a admitted runaway and I let slip from my grasp purposely in order to protect people.
