Corey was headed home at last, his tour of duty having ended early due to the loss of his middle finger and so he was no longer a viable disposal expert to keep when dealing with IED's in a war zone. He was now being assigned as military police on home turf to dispose of bombs and deal with high end black market crime. A better job he supposed. He could still feel the grating of sand in his hair, the stuff got everywhere and was so hard to get out.
When he pulled up the drive in the sleek black sports car provided by the defense department she saw his daughters in Megan's car, what was going on? it was around 11 PM, had Carla let them leave for a party or something?
Slowly he got out of the car and caught Gwen's little speech and he frowned, so things had gotten worse. He walked to the door and leaned down, frowning into the car he said softly "Gwendolyn and Megan Taylor inside, we need to talk. You two have some explaining to do."

Megan laughed bitterly “Face our problems?” her tone was mocking. “That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to make you do forever now! You never do it, Gwen. You never will. You talk the talk, but can’t walk the walk.” Oh, she knew she was being mean, but there was no going back now. Something had snapped in her, putting all her emotions on display for herself, and she couldn’t take it. It was scary as hell, and as emo as it sounds, those feelings hurt, and that’s never a good place to be.
“And I’m not pretending, Megan!” liar. “This is me!” her voice broke on the last world. “if you can’t deal with it, that this is what I am, then you should just leave me alone. I don’t care what that bitch felt or did; I am not her. you hear me? I am not her!” she didn’t know how to put it in words what she felt. How could Gwen compare her to their mother? She looked at the tear sliding down Gwen’s face, and she wanted to slap her for being so weak. She was boiling with rage, like worst case scenario ADHD.
she jumped a bit when her dad stood all tall and mighty, looking down on them. She should have been happy to see him, but not this time. She was too angry, too hurt, to care. “No.” she whispered and got out of the car. She didn’t feel like going to a party anymore. She could just get totally sloshed in her room instead. She held both sides of her head, covering her ears like a little child. “You have no right!” she shouted and barged back inside and slammed the door so hard the hallway all but vibrated from the impact. He’d left. The man who was supposed to keep them safe had left, and it was too just too little too late. His duties didn’t mean shit to her. she wanted her brother, whom she could forgive easily. She wanted to snug close to him like she always used to as a child.
in her room, she found the vodka she’d hidden in the closet under a pile jeans. The familiar taste was strong and welcoming.

Gwen looked at her when she burst out that she wasn't lying and the girl shook her head whispering "But you are, you are lying about your virginity and pretending. If you weren't they would treat you like they treat me Megan, I got the short end of the straw because I refused to lie and ... I am not a people person, you know that." she bit her lip and then continued "You are not mum but ... but I am worried you are making similar mistakes Megan ... maybe it's time to come clean with e-" she was cut off by a familiar voice, her father. She pushed him aside and ran into the house, up the stairs and to her room and burying her head in her pillow. What the hell was he doing home early?

Corey frowned when both his daughters fled into the house one after the other. He knew he should probably go after Gwen first because she would be in the worst state, his youngest daughter was an emotional wreck and he could not work out what the f*** to do about it.
He sighed and walked into the house after grabbing Megan's keys and locking the cars up and he walked through the door, he looked at Carla who was still asleep on the couch and walked upstairs to Megan's room, she would be more challenging to deal with and he wanted to get to the bottom of everything fast.
He opened the door and stepped inside, looking at the vodka in her hand and shook his head leaning on the door frame and softly saying "Well you really want something strong here" he held out a hip flask and continued "But you know that is not why I am in your doorway. Megan, I have spent my life on the front line just to keep this family afloat since your mother fucked us over, I have no qualifications. Only job I can get is the army." he shook his head and sighed looking at her and he moved into the room, sitting on the cupboard calmly he tilted his head as he watched her before he spoke again "Everything I have had to do, lose friends. Have my finger shot off, be beaten black and blue by the enemy. Interrogated, tortured. All just to give you the money to do what you want. Now what is going on, from what I over heard as I was sorting my kit you are pretending to have lost something to blend in and I can just guess what it is." his voice was soothing and calm, he had always been able to command most people emotions with his words, he was an orator as well as a skilled soldier.

She stared at the small flask in her dad’s hand before taking it. she tilted her head back and took a big sip, not caring what a drunk she must have looked like in front of her dad. She was not a child anymore. It burned in her throat and warmed her chest.
While her dad was talking she just stared at the wall, refusing to meet his eyes. Not out of shame of course, but out of hurt. She shook her head slowly when he was done. “You’re unbelievable.” She said, still not looking at him. “You want me to feel guilty because you have to go to some freaking war, that’s not even your own, when there’s a damn war at home? You can’t even protect Gwen. Do you know who does that? Me! Do you know who cleaned her up after she got pushed around and soaked at school? It was me, dad!” she finally locked her eyes with his. “And so what if the whole school thinks I’m a whore? Maybe I am.” Tears burned behind her eyes, but she wouldn’t let them betray her. “I only do what I have to do to keep myself 'afloat'.” She whispered and took a mouthful of her own vodka and licked her lips. It felt too awkward to even be in her own room when her dad was home. She stood up and snatched her leather jacket from the bed. “I’m going out. Don’t worry daddy, I’ll be home past curfew.”

Corey looked at his daughter, listening with a calm expression and when she went to leave he moved rapidly, blocking her exit with ease he stared her in the eye and whispered "I know I have failed you and I suppose I have paid for it, my right hand. It is no longer functional. It is to be taken in a weeks time. That is for my failure and this, right here is my lesson."
He looked at her and sighed, he shook his head and said calmly "It is not appropriate that you be leaving now Megan Taylor. I've always tried to do my best for you but I couldn't do that from a war zone, not how I wished to." he flexed his left hand and frowned before he whispered "Look, you are my daughter. I have failed you, Gwen and Carla. I love you and Gwen both but I cannot do anything about Gwen if I do not know what she is hiding, I know she is being bullied but one day you will understand that one day a parent cannot interfere in every aspect of their child's life. You also do not seem to understand your mother's past, Gwen is both right and wrong. She started similarly, to avoid being bullied first she faked that her virginity was lost, then that she loved vodka then that she took drugs like her so called mates and by the end of it she had lost it all, every bit of it. Then finally she pretended that she wasn't married and had an affair, landed us in the sh*t. Did you know she put us further into debt than my mundane home turf job couldn't support us anymore, even with Carla's extra help."

What the hell had his hand to do with anything? That his hand was ruined didn’t make his absence better. It didn’t make up for it. she shook her head and pushed past him. “I think it’s very much appropriate that I’m leaving now. Actually, I think I’m gonna crash at a friend’s house. “she walked down the hall, but decided she wasn’t done and turned to face her dad again. She hated that he was so calm and controlled. Why couldn’t he for once show some emotion? Why couldn’t he show that his words were genuine? “and yes, you wanna know what’s wrong with Gwen? She’s sick, dad, but you should talk to her about that.” She snapped. “And myself concerned? I am not mom. I’ll cope. And you and Gwen should stop acting like something crawled up your asses and stop nagging at me! I’ve never done drugs, nor will i.” with that she ran down the stairs and out the door, leaving Gwen to their dad.

Corey's reserve broke when his daughter walked out the door, he pressed his palm to his forehead and whispered "Megan, you want to know why I didn't leave the military. Because I couldn't. Beyond my bomb disposal I was part of a project called blackfire, developing a way to end the war for Americans, it didn't work. To keep me from telling anyone they made me sign the stature of secrecy, I didn't read it thoroughly. It required 10 years more service out of me. I couldn't appeal and I couldn't escape without my disposal abilities being hampered like losing my hand." he sat back against the wall and held his head in his hands and whispered shakily "Tell me about ... about what has been going on with Gwen ... Has Sebastien given her any more threats? what about this illness?"

She threw up her hands in despair and suppressed a scream. “stop, just stop with the bloody pity talk already! Fine, you had to leave, blah blah, but I actually do have a life. My point being; don’t expect your arrival to magically make me the sweet girl I was before. People change, dad. Except Gwen, she’s stuck.” Now that that was out she walked over to her dad and sat beside him, careful not to touch him. “and yeah, Sebastian’s been a prick. That’s just his nature. We can handle him. I can handle him. And for the illness of hers…” she trailed off, not knowing how to break the heartbreaking news to her already heartbroken dad. Not that she cared about his feelings, but she did care about her sister’s, and it wasn’t Megan’s secret to share.
“Look, dad. You have to talk to her, yourself. I’m not gonna tell you, because it isn’t mine to do. But she needs…Money. Money we don’t have. I was thinking we could sell my car, seeing as you’re time away hasn’t really served us all that well. And I was thinking, “she sighed, “I was thinking we could call mom. And wait; hear me out before you go all batshit. This is about Gwen, not me, not you. I hate mom as much as any of you, if not more, but she might be able to help. I know you don’t want her dirty money. It’s just an idea.” She got up and patted her dad’s shoulder awkwardly. It felt forced. “I am going now. I won’t change, dad, but I won’t get pregnant or STDs either.” She said and walked out the door with no intentions of coming back before she was properly sloshed.
