Leah didn’t have to patrol today, which was nice, though it left her alone with her thoughts, which could be a good thing at times, but right now, she just didn’t want to think about anything. On the bright side, she got to sleep in a little late. The twenty-year-old stretched as she blinked her eyes open and looked around. Her room was a complete mess, but only because she hadn’t had time to straighten it up lately. It wasn’t that Leah was a messy person, she just had a lot going on right now. There was Seth’s whole college issue, then the fact that she was protecting the Cullens. What Leah needed was something to do to get her mind off of things. And since Sue had agreed and Leah had enough money, she had plans to go to the stables in Forks. She didn’t particularly like being in Forks because she felt like she was spending enough time there lately, but it would be nice to get away from the vampire smell.
She slowly got out of bed and walked toward the bathroom down the hall then got in the shower. Nothing like getting all clean before smelling like horse. When she got out her hair smelled like kiwi shampoo and was already starting its natural soft curl. She dried it off as best she could with the towel and then ran a brush though it before heading back to her room, not caring whether she was actually covered because it was just family here. Leah wasn’t one to put on clothes for something completely unnecessary, though she was sure it drove her mom and brother insane.
The werewolf put on her makeup first, picking out a bright shade of red lipstick and some purple eyeshadows. Then she chose her clothing to match - a pair of short shorts, a purple tank top and a loose black shirt over it. A pair of converse and nail polish topped the outfit off. Normally, Leah wasn’t one for getting all dressed up. Her normal philosophy was the less clothing the better. She was actually pretty fond of her body and didn’t mind showing it off. But she was also feeling more and more like a wolf the last few days with the amount of patrolling she was doing, and getting dressed up(ish) and putting on some makeup made her feel a little more human.
Her car started without a hitch, this was something else Leah was pretty fond of - driving. The problem with Forks was that it was just too close to La Push to get any real enjoyment out of the drive. She knew the way mostly from the scent of animal. Even in human form weres had a heightened sense of smell, something Leah found both annoying and highly valuable. She drove up to the Stables and parked the car, following the scent of horse. She looked around, not sure where to go really. She hadn’t been on a horse in what felt like ages, but she knew how to ride. She had had lessons when she was little, but they hadn’t lasted long. But Leah liked animals; she seemed to be able to communicate better with them than with other humans. Maybe it was that extra sense from being a wolf, but they were always very comforting to her. “Anyone around?” She called, walking to a larger area that looked like where most of the horses might be kept. tag: jace words: 583 outfit: click notes: teehee, threadness credit: template made by me ;; lyrics, "use somebody" kings of leon

And I'll find strength in pain And I will change my ways I'll know my name as it's called again
It was a nice day for once. It wasn’t sunny but it was warm. Jace was out in The Center with his sister and daughter. Sloan was feeding the horses with Dani while Jace set up for a riding class that he was teaching later in the day. It was an advanced class that was focusing on difficult jumps so he had to make sure the obstacles were set up correctly. He was just finishing when he heard his daughter scuffle into the outdoor arena he was using for the lesson.
“What do you want, sweety?” he asked her.
“Can I ride Pogo?” Dani asked.
Jace sighed and nodded but reminded her not to ride for too long. It killed him to have to tell her that she was getting to big for the miniature pony, but for now she was still not quite there yet. Jace saw that as a good thing because he really hated seeing Dani upset and she loved that little falabella. He watched go over to Sloan who was looking at him intently. He nodded at her to tell her to go ahead. His sister knew his worries. That was always a good thing. He might ask her to talk to Dani about the issue. She would probably be able to keep her from crying.
“Anyone around?”
He frowned slightly at the new voice. He did get very many newcomers. He walked left the training Arena and walked in the direction of the voice to see a woman heading inside the bigger barn. He followed her quietly. He was going to just jump out at her, but running and screaming tended to spook most horses. When he got close enough to the woman, he finally answered.
“I’m Jace Mortimer,” he said lightly. “Can I help you?”
Just because he didn’t know the girl didn’t mean he was going to turn her away. First off, it would be bad for business. Second off, he wasn’t an asshole.

Someone was following her, Leah could hear it, she could smell the human scent. Heightened senses were something Leah loved about being a werewolf. They were nowhere near as strong as they were when she was in wolf form, but they were by far stronger than the average human’s senses. But being a werewolf also meant that she needed to blend in, because she couldn’t tell people what she was. Or could she? Sam had set that rule when they all first joined up - no one could tell anyone. But Jake hadn’t mentioned it yet. And why should he need to? Everyone he cared about knew already. That didn’t seem fair. Not that Leah was admitting she cared about anyone, but it seemed sort of uneven on the rest of the pack’s part. Anyway, the point was that she was pretending to act human as to not scare whoever it was who had decided to follow her toward the large barn.
When he spoke to her, Leah turned in one graceful movement that was as effortless for her as it seemed. She had planned on coming up with some witty remark about how people shouldn’t follow others and should announce themselves because it was just polite (though Leah was far from polite herself). She had assumed that this was the owner, since he’d asked if he could help. But still, he was human just like anyone else and needed to know that she wasn’t going to put up with things that were supposed to be put in effect to startle her. But every intention of saying and doing had fled her body when she looked at him. Suddenly, it was so obvious that she should be here.
She looked at him with an unbelieving expression on her face for a moment longer than was usual for Leah, though she doubted anyone who didn’t know her or lived on the reservation would have noticed. Leah hadn’t thought that this would ever have happened to her, but it was an unmistakable feeling even though she’d never felt it a day in her life. Imprint. Well crap. The werewolf didn’t know if she was happy or upset that she’d finally done it. For years she’d told herself that she’d wanted to imprint because it would mean that she would be complete and wouldn’t have to be in love with Sam or Jake anymore. But here she was, her free will taken from her.
Well, she’d die if she was going to let her free will be taken. That wasn’t who Leah was. Leah was a fighter. But somehow, she couldn’t find it in her to be as harsh as she had wanted to be, or even come up with those witty remarks she had planned. “Oh, um. Leah Clearwater. Sorry I… didn’t call… I didn’t realize I’d have today off. But I’ve wanted a horse for a while, and you’re local, so…” tag: jace words: 490 outfit: click notes: teehee, threadness credit: template made by me ;; lyrics, "use somebody" kings of leon

And I'll find strength in pain And I will change my ways I'll know my name as it's called again
Jace shook his head as she stumbled through an explanation. He couldn’t help but smile a little as she introduced herself. She was good-looking, gorgeous even, but the stammering definitely increased it. It was pretty obvious she was a confident woman most of the time, the stumbling over her words probably didn’t happen much to her all. He wasn’t the type to see a girl want to ask her out or something, but he was finding himself thinking along those lines. Right up until his brain reminded him of his daughter.
“There’s no need to call,” he assured her. “We’re open for anyone at anytime. So long as I’m awake.”
He paused to look around the stable he followed her into. It was one of the two that housed the residential horses. The ones for sale had a stable to themselves. That stable was the smallest one.
“You won’t find a horse for sale in this stable,” he said. “Follow me and I’ll show you the way.”
He led her out of the stable and into the one where the buyable horses. The stable only had fourteen stalls; only the first five were occupied. Three of the horses were thoroughbreds. One was an Arabian. The other was an Arabian foal that was barely year old.
“This is all we got at the moment,” he said. “There all pretty good horses, but that Arabian there has some trust issues so I’d be careful if you go by her stall. She gets skittish easily.”
The Arabian was a solid white and a little over three years old. From what Jace had gathered from the vet that had stuffed the mare here, the mare had been pretty much neglected for the first two years. Jace had only gotten her about six months ago. Not exactly for sale at the moment, he was only housing here to get used to people more and other horses more easily. She was getting better, no longer skittish to the point of being dangerous. She was just jumpy.

New chains. That was what Leah thought this was. She had once had a conversation with Jacob about imprinting. At the time, Leah thought it would be the best thing that could happen to her. She thought she’d be rid of her feelings for Jacob and Sam. That didn’t happen. Maybe imprinting was different for females. Of course she felt the pull toward Jace - a strong one, one that surpassed how she felt for both Sam and Jacob combined, but that didn’t make her feelings for the others disappear, it just made them easier to live with. Maybe, if she got to know Jace more, the feelings for the two alphas would go away. Then there was the secret that she was a werewolf. Did she tell Jace about that? Are you kidding, Leah? He’d completely flip! And not in a good way. So the answer was no… for now. Even if there were no secrets with imprints. Now she was a Beta, looking out for the pack, a sister, wanting good things for her brother, and had imprinted - found what was supposed to be true love and which meant wanting to protect him.
Leah followed Jace to the area with the horses for sell, looking all the time at her surroundings, sniffing the air when she thought the human wasn’t paying attention, finding that there were others around. So when he spoke again, she was a little taken off guard. She looked at the animals around her. The fear she smelled coming off of the horse that Jace had indicated, and of course it was the one Leah was drawn to almost as soon as she saw it. The animal was just beautiful. The werewolf kept a safe distance from the horse, but got close enough to look at it.
She tilted her head and smiled. “But she’s gorgeous.” Her voice was practically a whisper. Leah had a soft spot for animals that needed a bit of special attention. Leah stepped slowly and carefully over to the horse, ready to back away if she needed. She saw the horse move back and stopped, holding her hand out. She wondered if the horse could smell she wasn’t entirely human. Probably, because after a moment it seemed more comfortable and stepped closer. Leah let the horse move into her hand and smiled again. “Why is she skittish?” tag: jace words: 398 outfit: click notes: teehee, threadness credit: template made by me ;; lyrics, "use somebody" kings of leon
