What. The. Hell? Each word played in Leah's head slowly as she held the phone in her hand. All she could do was blink. The doctor was trying to get through to her on the other end but she couldn't understand what it was he was saying. She could hear the man repeating her name as 'Miss Clearwater' over and over. Leah shook herself out of it and spoke into the phone. “Yeah, yeah I'll be right there.” She threw on a pair of jeans a green t-shirt that showed just a bit of her stomach. Gotta use the shirt while I still can... she thought. This news wasn't the only thing she had to deal with right now, but it was one that had her crying... again. She hadn't told Jake about the first bit of news she had, but she knew she'd have to tell him soon enough.
Leah pulled into the parking lot for the local hospital, only now very aware that one of the people who worked here was one of the people she was trying desperately to avoid. But the tears streaming down her face didn't allow her to stop at the door and turn around. Instead she walked up to the information desk and asked which room Chase was being held in. Then she made her way to the intensive care wing and tried to control her shaking. When she got to the room he was already out. The doctors said there wasn't anything they could do, and while she sat there, Chase died.
And Leah's world broke down. Her imprint was gone. Even though she had distanced herself, he was still gone and she couldn't say goodbye. And she couldn't confess about how she'd slept with Jacob and was now in real big shit. She knew she needed Jake, that once she was with him everything would be better. After all, she loved Jacob way more than she had Chase – but watching anyone she loved die... And not getting the chance to apologize...
She tentatively put one hand on Chase's arm, whispered that she was sorry, and then left, crying. Leah got into her car and by the time she made it to La Push, practically driving on autopilot because her eyes were so blurry from tears and her head was messed up from the news, her eyes were red. Not the scary red of vampires, but the normal I've-been-crying-my-eyes-out red. She sniffed the air, searching for Billy and Rachel's scent but they didn't seem to be home. Good. Leah got out of the car and walked to the door. Then she hesitated. What if Jake didn't want her there? But he needed to know everything that was going on. She started to knock on the door, but rethought it and just opened it. She didn't want to be caught outside Jacob's house right now, or in public at all, looking like she did.
Leah caught her reflection in a window and grimaced. Normally she liked the way she looked. Now she had mascara running down her face and her eyes were bloodshot. Her hair was a complete mess and hanging down over her shoulders. She looked pale, or at least as pale as she could look. Her face was drained of color and she felt like her knees might give out. She steadied herself on the counter. “Jake? You here?” Her voice wasn't very loud, and it betrayed her. It was obvious something wasn't right.

The mist cool air from the heavy rain storm, sat in that morning. In a way, it felt somewhat gloomy and Jake didn't understand why. It seamed as if a dark cloud was setting over LaPush, and he had to make his way back. Look over to Renesmee, he kissed her forehead gently and waved his goodbyes to the rest of the Cullens. Slipping into his truck, he watched as Nessies, bright red cheeks faded. Obviously something wasn't right. It had been a couple days since he had last spoken to Leah. He had figured she was busy, since usually she always calls him before bed time. He felt it was best, since he had to stay at the Cullen's, to kind of keep their distance for a few nights. But he didn't mean for her to not call.
Burning hole-shots out of the driveway, Jake found himself going ninety-five back home. He could feel something burning in the pit of his stomach. Like something was bound to go horribly wrong. Trying to take his mind off of his thoughts, Jake flipped on the radio. "Ol' Bocephus." He spoke to himself, letting a small smile come across his face. Hank Jr happened to be one of his favorite country singers. Just the music he sang, calmed Jake to the bone. Beating and tapping on the wheel, he found himself making a turn towards his house. A few cops flew by with their sirens off. In a way, that had begun to worry him also.
Getting out of his truck, Jake walked to the front door of his house and slipped inside. It was quiet. No one had seemed to be home, not even his sister Rachel. Ever since she had moved back to LaPush, it seemed she was out every night in the clubs or bars. But then again, that wasn't his problem. Closing the door behind him, Jake kicked off his boots and hurried his way up the stairs. He could hear his comfortable, pillow top bed calling his name as he opened the bedroom door. Falling the rest of the way onto his blankets, Jake picked up his remote and flipped on the television. Nothing but commercials were showing. And they all seemed to be 'First Response' commercials.
Drifting off into a slumber, Jake heard a small voice coming from downstairs. Of course it was very familiar to him. Kicking back the covers he quickly headed for the door, opening it as fast as he could, placing a big hole in the side of the wall. Looking down the stairs, he notice Leah in nothing but tears. She was barely holding on. It had seamed as if all of her weight was laid into the counter. "Leah!" Jake bellowed, running down the stairs to grab her. She was nothing but a mess. He eyes blood-shot from crying. And her strength weakening. Picking her off of her feet, Jake brought her over to the sofa and sat her down.
His heart fluttered as he ran back and forth to get stuff for her. He had never in his life seen Leah in a state like this. She could barely talk to him. Finally finding time to break, Jake sat down beside her, running his fingers through her soft dark hair. "Leah, whats going on?" Of course, he was concerned about her. She had meant allot to him.

Jake's voice was like a rush of morphine through her veins for a moment. For just a few minutes Leah felt nothing but numb. If Jake hadn't lifted her to the couch her legs would have given out and she would have been lying on the kitchen floor, probably with a concussion though it probably wouldn't have lasted very long with how fast shifters healed. What the tribe elders didn't mention was that inside healing didn't work as fast. She thought she'd probably be feeling the loss of Chase for a very long time. But Jacob was here, and she loved him more than she had loved Chase, so things would be okay... if the two of them didn't die. Leah had a feeling they'd be risking being out in the open soon. She tucked her head into the part where Jake's neck met his collar bone. He smelled like her – like Renesmee. A selfish part of her wanted to chew him out, but she didn't want to bring it up, even if the leech smell was a bit much. She knew the other shifters didn't seem to have a problem with the Cullens anymore, but she still couldn't get over the stench of them. Then there was the fact that her own imprint had just died, which sort of crushed her even though she'd been planning to leave him anyway.
Leah was put on the sofa and through the tears she could see that Jake was more worried about her than she'd ever seen him care for her before. Of course, until recently that had been because they were always at each others throats... and not in a good way. When she found out about the first part of what she had to tell Jake, she'd stopped calling, mostly trying to figure everything out. She thought it was probably a mistake. There was no way on earth that this could have happened to her, she was a female shifter for crying out loud. But the tests didn't lie. She'd gone into the La Push doctor's office (completely avoiding the Forks hospital) because of a bit of sickness and some weird cravings. His answer had been so surprising she'd practically hit the floor.
By the time Jake asked what was wrong, Leah was curled up almost into a ball and crying again. She had to force herself to control her breathing or else she would probably start to hyperventilate. She held up a finger to tell him to give her just a second. She needed to calm down, though how she thought she was going to do that she didn't know. And she especially needed to gather her thoughts. She felt his hand in her hair and wondered why Jacob couldn't have been the person she imprinted on. Or why that God forsaken Bella had to go and have her little Hell-spawn. Well, first thing was first. He needed to know what was so horrible that had her looking all a mess. She took a deep breath and when she finally spoke her words came out a bit stuttery. “Ch-Ch-Chase d-died.” Saying it out loud brought on even more tears. “Car a-accident.”
One down. “And I'm pregnant.” She blurted the words out in a rush. Not really thinking about what she was saying. She just wanted everything out. “And it's yours. And that's why I haven't been calling every night like usual.”

Jake watched as Leah curled herself up on his couch. He had never seen her this down and out before. The Leah he had known, was always tough, and never once shed a tear. Well, that he had seen. Taking his thumb, he ran it gently across Leah's forehead, trying to help her stable her breathing. She had seemed to be doing it rather well on her own, but he still cared deeply about her. He loved her, and wouldn't want anything to happen to her. As of now, Jake didn't care to much to here about Renesmee. She happened to be the last thing that crossed her mind at that moment.
As soon as Leah let down her finger, he watched the tears begin to drown out her cheeks. The words he had heard, made his heart somewhat sink down to the pit of his stomach. Even though he didn't care too much for Chase, he had to show some kind of emotion. After all, that was Leah's imprint. Quickly making his way to sit by her, Jake picked her up and laid her down in his arms. He knew if something had happened to Renesmee, he probably would be doing the same. Running his fingers through her hair, Jake began to somewhat rock her. "I'm so sorry, Leah. You know I'm here for you no matter what."
Jake felt her warm, wet sobs against the brim of his neck. Thoughts swarmed his mind about Chase. The thought of himself dying had even crossed his mind. There was no way in hell he had wanted to leave Leah like that. He wondered if she would have done the same? Then again, he didn't want her to cry over him. He wasn't worth the tears. Bringing her chin up, he began to squeeze her a little tighter. Why was the thought of death creeping through his mind now? Shaking his head lightly, he focused off into the distance. In a way, even though it sounded a little creepy in Jacob's mind, he was glad Chase was finally gone. Now he didn't have to worry about the challenge that he had to face with the kid.
He felt Leah take in a deep breath. And out of nowhere came the news no man had wanted to hear. Not when there was too much tension going on between them and the Cullen's already. Jacob's hands began to tremble, and with a sudden thud, he found himself on his knees. Tears hadn't fell down his cheeks as of yet, but he could feel them start to brew. They were really going to kill him now. All over one night of expressing himself towards someone he had actually cared about. "W-when did you find this out?" he asked her silently. His big brown eyes following her every movement. "Who all knows?" What really could he say, he was in shock. And Yes, Jacob was scared. Now, he had a child on the way, and feared for their lives.

How sick was it that part of her was glad that Chase was out of the picture – that didn't have to feel tied to the earth by something she hadn't chosen, and she didn't have to worry about telling him that she was leaving him. That was selfish of her. But she also felt incredibly guilty that she hadn't been completely honest with him. Sure, they hadn't been intimately involved, but she also knew that the imprint rules were supposed to be clear. She hadn't wanted Chase to die, she wasn't that heartless. But she couldn't help but feel a little relieved that all she had was Jacob now. It was one less obstacle, though the baby on the way sort of gave them another obstacle. A very different obstacle.
Leah felt way too comfortable being so close to her alpha. There was just something about sitting with Jake that made everything better. It was okay to be vulnerable around him; she still didn't like being this vulnerable, but out of anyone else, she felt like she could let Jake see this side of her – he wouldn't go around telling people about this, and he would comfort her the best he could. She knew that when he said he was there for her, he meant it. Jake wasn't the kind of person to just walk out. As he rocked her back and forth in his lap, Leah's lips found the skin of his neck and pressed against it softly. If she thought about it, it was really odd that when her imprint died she could have an intimate moment with Jacob, but she loved the wolf, now with all her heart, not just most of it. Her arms wrapped around him and she held on tight while he rocked her.
Until he reacted to the news about her being pregnant. Suddenly Jake wasn't holding her anymore. He wasn't comforting her like he had when she had told him that her imprint had died. She didn't expect Jacob to really be upset about Chase's death – after all, the two of them were trying really hard to make things work between them and an imprint gone was an imprint out of the way. But he'd been sorry, she was sure at least, that she was upset. Now it was different. With any other person, Jacob's reaction to hearing they were having a baby would have pissed Leah off to no end. But this was Jacob. This was the person she loved. Not someone she imprinted on and was forced to care about. This wasn't some stupid fate thing. And the funny thing was – seeing Jacob like that made something in her click.
“Shh. Jake, it's okay. We're going to be okay.” She fell to her knees right in front of him and put her hands on each side of his face. “I've known for a couple of weeks. I'm a month at the most along now. The only people who know so far are me, you, and the doctor who told me, someone here on the reservation so we don't need to worry about it getting out to Carlisle.” One of her hands ran through Jake's hair, trying, she hoped it wasn't a futile attempt, to calm and comfort him in any way she could. “Look, I'm not showing yet, so we can hide this for a little while until we figure out what to do. If we have to we can come up with some story about it not being yours, but... Jake, I really, really want to keep this baby.”
Leah made her eyes look into Jacob's; she hoped she wasn't the only one of them who wanted to keep the child. Until now, she'd been on the fence, going back and forth between having it aborted and keeping the baby. But when whatever it was clicked in her, she knew she wanted to keep what was growing inside her. “I know we're really young. And it's complicated. And if you don't want to...” she swallowed and made herself go on. “...if you don't want to be a part of it, that's fine. I'll figure something out. But I. Want. This. Baby.”

Watching as Leah got down to his level, he watched as her eyes locked with his. Even though he knew this child would ruin whatever it was he had with the Cullen's, he didn't seem to really care. All he could think about was what Billy would say. Shaking his head, he remembered what Quil had told him about being distantly related to the Clearwater's. Jake didn't believe it one bit. Even if it was true, he wasn't going to let that get in the way. He and Leah were bound to have their first child soon. Jake listened to Leah's soothing words as she placed her hands gently on the sides of his face.
Bringing his hands up, he placed them upon Leah's. The tears swarmed his cheeks as he thought about taking care of a child that was now his own. He knew Renesmee and them had to be pushed from the picture. But how? He didn't want his son/or daughter to be raised in a broken home with no father and mother together. That was the last thing he needed. As soon as he heard Leah begin to explain how far along she was, and telling people he wasn't the father just to keep him safe, Jake jumped to his feet. That was his child and he didn't care if he had to be there for the both of them. The Cullen's didn't own him. He was his own free soul.
"There is no way in hell you are going to abort it or anything." Pacing the family room, Jake placed his hand upon his forehead and looked back to her. "And what makes you think I don't want to be a part of this baby's life... correction, our baby's life. You both mean the world to me, Leah." Making his way over towards her, he dropped down to her level and lifted her chin to look at him. His eyes a bit bloodshot and hazy from crying. He knew he had to do what was right. "If this means ditching Renesmee, then I am going to do it. You and that child are my family. Now, I will support the both of you. That's what a real man does."
Picking himself back up, Jake walked over to the stairs railing and laid his head down gently. He knew he had to break it to the Cullen's, but how. Bella would be furious to know that Jake went behind her own daughters back with his beta. And if Bella had the chance, Jake knew she would possibly find a way to hunt him down and slaughter him. Letting out a loud, yet relieving sigh, he turned back to Leah and pulled her to him. He could feel her heartbeat against his. Both of them we nervous and scared. Not so much with telling their parents, but with the pack.
"I want you to know, That i do love you Leah." With a big cheeky smile, Jake pushed his lips up against hers holding them both together as long as he possibly could. They were going to be a family now. Before, Jake thought he could have never had a kid with anyone since Renesmee was a hybrid. But now, he got his wish. Even if it was a dangerous situation. Letting go, he took a small back, grabbing her wrist lightly. "You do know this pregnancy is going to be shorter than any regular human one right? Possibly by a couple months." Ninety-days was the regular time for any female dog to have their puppies. But being a were-wolf, they weren't bound to have puppies. Just a regular human baby. Jake hated when they had gotten compared to dog's. They were far from that. Now vampires, that was a different story as well. They were not humans. Not an ounce of blood drifted through their cold dead bodies.

It felt like her life was both falling apart and coming together at the same exact time. Talk about confusing! Chase's death meant that she didn't have to go behind his back anymore (and she felt incredibly guilty about being relieved about that) but it also meant that someone had died and she felt like it was completely, one hundred percent, her fault even if she couldn't really do anything about the whole it being a car accident thing. And what if that had been Jake? Granted, Jacob could heal a lot better and a lot faster than a human, and had way better reflexes than a human, but what if it had been Jake who had died? Leah didn't think she'd be able to live with herself. Jake was everything to her. He meant much more than a stupid imprint. Hell, the reason she wanted the baby so bad was because it was his. Despite the fact that she was sure people thought she was a bit more experienced, the truth was that she'd only ever slept with one person, and she was going to have that person's baby.
“I'm not going to abort it, Jake.” She said after taking a deep breath. “I'm not gonna lie to you, I thought about it. I thought about it a lot. But it was only because I wanted to keep you safe.” She made a pathetic attempt at a smile. Now both of their eyes were red. It was sort of funny. “I just thought that... well I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to be a part of this. I mean, we didn't really plan it. We both thought it couldn't happen. And how the hell did it anyway? I'm not supposed to be able to get pregnant.” She covered her eyes with her hands. How had she gotten knocked up? Okay, well she guessed that, for humans, she knew the mechanics of it. But she wasn't really all human. She'd been sure every since the first time she missed her little womanly time of the month that there was no way she was going to be able to get pregnant. Even the doctor had used the word “miracle.” Yeah, some miracle. The real miracle would be if the Cullens didn't plow through the pack to kill her. She knew that the Cullens would be really mad at Jake what with the whole Hybrid/Jake imprint, but she wouldn't put it passed them to go after Leah instead. Get the home-wrecker out of the picture and things would be fine was the way she assumed they'd think. Besides, Jake was the best friend of that stupid bloodsucking Bella. She didn't think the leech really had it in her to kill anyone.
Leah couldn't help but smile as Jake said that he'd leave Renesmee and support them. She felt like a bit of a home-wrecker but it felt good to know that Jacob was going to be there for her. “You don't have to completely support us. We'll have Sue eventually, and I'm pregnant, not impaired.” The sarcastic Leah came out at the end of that sentence. Really, did he think she was just going to start sitting on her ass now? She was a Clearwater for crying out loud. Their women were strong and did what they needed to do to get through things. She felt Jake's lips touch hers and her arms went around his shoulders again to hold herself close. Even when things were crazy Jake could make her feel better. And his words sent little butterflies to her stomach. He loved her? Really? Even though she'd gotten them into this mess, because in her mind this was her fault, he still cared about her? “I love you, too, Jake.”
She bit her bottom lip when he brought up the fact that this pregnancy would probably go by a lot faster than a human pregnancy. “I really don't know how things are going to go. And I'm scared about that.” She hated admitting it, even to herself and especially to Jacob. She wasn't supposed to be scared. She wasn't supposed to be vulnerable at all. That wasn't the Leah people were supposed to see. Sure, she broke down once in a while, but she only let herself do that when she was alone. Everyone was supposed to just see the Leah that was strong and sarcastic, ready for just about anything. “It's not like there's been a female shifter, that we know of, who has had a baby. Who knows what the hell is gonna happen?” Leah took in a deep breath and put her strong face back on. They weren't going to back out of this so they were just going to have to deal with it. “It just means we'll have to figure things out faster.”

There they stood, in a mess neither one of them could get themselves out of. It was surprising enough that Jake had held himself up this long. His knees were weakening at the thought of everyone finding out about the baby. But really, why would he care? It was his child now. His responsibility. And he was damn sure going to stand his ground and take care of his new family. The length of the pregnancy made its way through Leah's lips. She seemed strong on the outside, but Jake knew she was hurting as well. He really didn't know if the thought of her going behind Chase's back with him really bothered her, or what. She was now carrying his baby. Looking up towards the ceiling, he began to imagine that boy glancing down on the both of them. Shaking his head in shame.
Figuring things out faster was something that had to be done. Baby clothes and accessories had to be purchased soon. Leah was right, and so was he. They didn't know when this baby would come. It was only a matter of time before they knew it. And what would the doctors say when they find out she is to be delivering early. Reaching out, he grabbed her hands and held them tightly. "Look, Leah... I know this sounds pretty crazy right now, but we have to find a doctor for our baby." Taking in a deep breath, he shook his head lightly and glanced around. Of course he wouldn't find any ideas for a doctor in the house, but still. The only one he had known to take care of things like this would have to be Carlisle. But he couldn't. Jake knew after he would find out, there was no way he would help them. "Never mind Lee. I was going to say Carlisle, but there is no way that... thing, would help us." Letting out another deep relieving breath, Jake released her hands and stepped back.
This was the hardest thing he ever had to plan. And innocent child was bound to come into a world where the Vampires and Wolves would just end up fighting again. Jake looked over towards the wall, noticing a picture of him and his sister Rachel. They were both very young, covered in mud from head to toe. Those were the days he had remembered that life wasn't so hard. You were allowed to be a kid then. Not an adult. There wasn't one care in the world. Even though Rebecca and him didn't really bond all that much, he found an even tighter bond with Rachel. And he couldn't hide the pregnancy from her too much longer. She had to know. After all, neither one of them had kept secrets from each other.
Making his way over to the fridge, Jake reached down and grabbed himself a ice cold beer. So what if it was his dads, Jake needed it more than ever right now. It wasn't every day that a young man becomes a father. Grabbing the neck, he twisted off the cap and chucked it across the room. His beautiful brown eyes, glancing upon Leah's. "So, do you think we should get our own house soon then?" Maybe it was best for the two to get there own home. It was best to keep things in secret between the pack, but they were bound to find out sometime soon anyway. "And Rachel, can i at least tell her? She is my sister, and I do still confide in her." Yes, he did. But then a part of his was saying no. He had watched as his sister was getting good in with the Pack, and one wrong move she could possibly bust her mouth wide open and tell the whole town of LaPush.
Downing the rest of the six pack, Jake walked back over to Leah and grabbed her arms gently. He could feel the warmth of her skin between his fingers. And now, he was beginning to see a slight glow to her. It was beautiful. All he could hope was that the alcohol wasn't giving her that glow. But then again, he had been drunk too many times around her and never once in his life seen that. Her eyes even had more of a sparkle than before. Her skin was much softer, and her hair smoother than ever. There, he noticed the glow of his child growing inside of her. The best thing he could have ever asked for. Butterflies filled his stomach as he thought about raising it. But his thought was if it would be just like them, or human. Bringing his hand up under Leah's chin, he raised it just a bit. With the other hand, he placed his gently upon her stomach. As soon as his hadn't hit her stomach, it was as if he couldn't pull himself away. He was more attached than ever.

A doctor. Yeah, they needed one of those. She didn't want the leech doc anywhere near the child growing in her. It wasn't that she thought Carlisle would completely flip out – actually, she thought he might find it incredibly fascinating to study (and there was the deal breaker) a wolf pregnancy. Not to mention Leah just didn't like the bloodsuckers in general. And it would be awkward having the grandfather of the girl Jacob had imprinted on help her with Jacob's baby. Leah sighed and shifted her weight, as if she could already feel the pounds piling on her, though these metaphorical pounds were of the responsibility type, and the fact that they were going to have to hide this for a while. Not long, obviously, because Jake said he wanted to be a part of this and she would probably start to show soon. She ran her hands through her hair and bit on her bottom lip. “Sue is a nurse, she'll probably be able to help until we can get a doctor.” It was really the only thing she could think of right now. She was sure her mom would figure it out anyway. Leah sort of felt a little bad for not being as close with her mom as she had been before – it was mostly the whole Charlie issue. Leah didn't have anything against the guy, she actually had kinda liked him before Bella came to Forks. She just didn't want to get too close. After all, he was the other grandfather of the little tic that Jacob had imprinted on.
Leah bit her bottom lip as she watched Jacob grab a beer. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She couldn't really blame him for wanting one; if she had just heard that she was going to be the father of a baby she'd probably want something to ease the pain too. But Leah didn't really have that luxury, since she was the one carrying the baby. Was it jealousy or anger she was feeling? Leah had never been much of a drinker, though she'd been known to have one or two beers at a party. But as far as she could remember, she'd never been really drunk. And Jake was underage for cryin' out loud. Maybe that was part of what upset her about it, though she knew it was stupid. Physically, Jake was a grown man; it happened to all the shifters when they started getting ready for their first phase. And his heated blood would probably burn off the alcohol quickly.
Their own home. Leah opened her eyes at the question; that was certainly something to consider. If they were going to be together, it made sense that they'd have to eventually get their own place. She hadn't even thought about that though. Leah had just assumed that they would stay at Billy's or Sue's until everything was settled. But now that she thought about it a bit, Sue could just as easily help her out if her and Jake lived together as she could if Leah lived with her mother. Besides, Jacob had a right to want to be around his kid. Born or unborn. “I guess that makes sense. Probably should wait to actually move until when we tell people though.” She sighed. “And I don't care if you tell Rachel. I actually like Rachel. A lot more than I like some of the pack...”
As soon as Jake's hand touched her stomach, whatever anger or jealousy was in her disappeared, even if he did smell like alcohol. Damn shifter senses. But it hit her – they were going to raise the baby and she wouldn't (eventually) have to worry about that stupid Renesmee. Leah's lips pulled up into a small smile. “I don't think it's going to kick or anything. I think it's a bit soon for that.” She sighed and rested her head on his chest. “We should start planning for things, like, yesterday. There's... a lot to do.” She sighed and closed her eyes. It felt like a heavy weight had been put on her shoulders, which was the opposite of what she'd felt when she first told Jake, which had been like the weight being taken off.

The sun began to make its way behind the clouds, as the living room started to grow darker. It was a good thing Leah’s mother was a nurse or else they would have been extremely screwed. If one of the doctors from a regular hospital had to deal with Leah’s pregnancy, they would be more concerned and eventually find out what was going on. That was, if they were smart enough to figure it out. Placing his hand behind his neck, he began to rub it our of frustration. It was beginning to help the tension, but not the stress that he had carried upon his shoulders now. If Sue had known by now, then that meant Charlie knew. And if he knew, only god knows who else he might have slipped it too. He knew Charlie, and he wasn’t that good with keeping hold of secrets.
As soon as Leah rested her head upon his chest, Jake laid his hand on the back of her head. Yes, they both had allot going on in their lives. More than they could possibly handle, but Jake was going to do his best. One-hundred percent. “If you want, tomorrow I can pick you up and we can head to Seattle or something and do our shopping there? I mean, if we shop here, more and more people will find it suspicious and try and see what we are doing.” He had a point. If they wanted to keep the pregnancy hush, hush for a while they had to do their baby shopping elsewhere. This was the first time ever in his life that Jake was actually going baby shopping. For his own child. You would have never caught him dead in a store shopping for himself either. He would always end up getting hand-downs from his father who would end up going shopping for him.
Everything that had been going on around them seemed to be disappearing as soon as he pulled Leah’s head away from his chest. His big, brown, Casanova eyes focusing on nothing but her at that moment. He could still see the glow from her beautifully tanned face. “I better be getting you home soon.” He began, rubbing his thumb across her cheek. It was getting late and he did have to get up for work in the morning. Plus, she was pregnant and she did need her sleep more than he did. He wasn’t the one carrying another life inside of him. Not that, that was possible. “I will get you after work tomorrow. I promise.” Gently he kissed her on the lips, making his way over towards the counter where his keys had sat.
Grabbing Leah’s hand, Jake opened up the front door and helped her outside like the gentleman he was. The sun was finally setting, lighting up the west with a beautiful shade of pink. That was what he had loved most about the summers. It was always so warm and enlightening. Even the rains were nice to take a long run in. “Beautiful, isn’t it?” Walking over to his truck, he released her hand. Taking his sweet time, he crawled up into the vehicle and started the ignition. The loud roar of the horses from the engine, echoed the closed in area. Forgetting to turn his radio off as usual, Led Zepplin came across one of the stations. Ah yes, it was his favorite song ever. Stairway To Heaven. Jumping back out of the truck, Jake walked over to Leah and walked her to the passengers side. Opening the door, he helped hoist her up.
Closing the door behind him, Jake looked over to Leah. His eyes watering a bit as he looked at his surroundings. Honestly, Jake was blessed to be a dad. He loved Leah, and he loved his un-born child conditionally. But one thing stood in his way of everything. His love for Renesmee. Jake wanted so bad for it to go away. But it wouldn’t. Shaking his head, he placed his hand on-top of Leah’s. Glancing down, he looked over her ring finger. He knew one day he would have to make a decision on who he had wanted to spend the rest of his life with. And deep down in the pit of his stomach, Jake knew it had to be Leah. She was the one he loved.

Leah nodded. Seattle was probably the best place for them to be and not be spotted by someone they knew. Port Angeles was closer, but it was also smaller. Seattle was sure to have a bigger selection too. The problem would be where to put everything. They could probably keep some of it in Leah's room. She was a little worried about leaving it in her house on the off chance that Seth wanted to look for her diary or something, but they didn't really have many options while they were still trying to hide this. She could already tell she was going to hate hiding the whole pregnancy thing. “Seattle sounds like a good idea. Not only will no one see us there, but it'll probably good for us to get out in public and not have to worry about people getting suspicious.” It was so hard for her to not hold Jake's hand whenever they were around other people. She had to keep reminding herself that everyone thought that he was just involved with Renesmee. The thought of the little tic sent jealous chills up and down her spine and a unnerving urge to kill something, preferably said tic.
She hadn't really noticed how late it was getting. Leah didn't particularly want to go home – actually, going home was the last thing she wanted to do. She'd rather do a double shift at River's Edge than go home right now. But she did need to get some sleep, and she knew she was going to start needing as much sleep as possible soon. She'd appreciate sleep all the more when the baby came. “Maybe we should just run away.” She breathed a laugh and looked out the window. “Seth wants to leave, it's only a matter of time before everyone else follows his lead.” It was half a joke, but there was something appealing about the idea. If they were away from everyone, they could be together without having to look over their shoulder. The fact that it would be distance between Jake and the little hybrid was another plus.
“Fine, take me home.” She moved out of his arms and started walking outside, glad that the water works in her eyes had stopped for now. She didn't think she had anymore tears left for tonight. Jake went to start the truck, then came back to walk her to the vehicle like a complete gentleman. Sometimes it was easy for Leah to forget that he was still a teenager. It probably should have been awkward that she was older than him, but it wasn't.
Leah ran her hands through her hair and let her head rest on the back of the seat, then felt Jake's hand go over hers when she let it rest next to her, in between them, on the seat of the truck. A smile formed on her face as she realized how right that felt. “Will you stay with me for a while? Seth is probably with that wench and Sue's probably with Charlie. You wouldn't be risking much... unless... you gotta go somewhere...” She hated that there were things Jake couldn't help – like his imprinting on that little tic and the fact that he cared about the hybrid. If she could do anything about it, she would in an instant... heck, she'd kill the girl if she didn't think that it would definitely be their asses on the line.

Thoughts swarmed his mind once again, he could see that Leah didn’t like being on the side burner while he still kept Renesmee in the front. Honestly, it was time to set her aside from him. She was young anyway to begin with. Pushing in the clutch, he shoved it into first gear as fast as he could ripping out of the driveway. He wasn’t going to take Leah home at all, by no means. He honestly didn’t know what to do with Leah’s jealous feelings. He couldn’t tell her otherwise, she wasn’t one to listen to him that often. Peeling away onto the main road, Jake hammered down on the gears and practically flew into fifth. He loved Leah. More than she could have ever imagined. And there was only one way to prove that to her. It was taking a big risk, but in his mind it was well worth it.
Instead of taking a left to head out further into LaPush, Jake made a right, making his way towards Forks. It was time to prove his point to Leah that he had wanted her now. He would take care of what was to come with the Cullen’s later. What was important happened to be Leah and his child. And not to forget, their future together. Turning the radio up, Jake looked to the time. Six fifty-eight. He had until eight to get to where he was going before anything closed. Hopefully he was making the right decision, because if he wasn’t it would cost him nothing but heartbreak. The least Leah could say to him is no, and he still wasn’t going to take no for an answer at all. It was time to man up and make everything right with the two of them.
The lights were slowly turning green as he rolled through Forks, slamming from one gear to the other. “I will prove to you how much you mean to me Leah. And its more than Bella had ever meant to me…” He swallowed a big chunk of nervous spit and looked to his side at her. “Even more than Renesmee.” Crossing his fingers, Jake turned right down state avenue. It was only a quarter of a mile up until he had finally reached his destination. Turning his right signal on, Jake flew into a half empty parking lot. There above them on a white and black sign read Kay Jewelers. His heart sank as soon as he placed the stick into neutral and shut it off. What on earth was he doing? He had time enough to turn around and say that he pulled into the wrong drive. Then he could take her for dinner, or ice-cream. But no, opened his truck door and sat there. His hands trembling like no other.
Pointing to the open sign on the door, Jake pulled out his wallet and smirked in her direction. He was more than serious about his decision now. And if carrying the Black name wasn’t enough for her, then he didn’t know what else he could do, but stick around and take care of her as much as he possibly could. “You have your pick Leah. Any one of those.” Trembling yet again, he grabbed her hand. Even though he was young, Jake was serious. He wasn’t going to hide this anymore. Everything had to come out sooner or later. So why not now. “Even if you say no, I will still wait around Leah.” What was he doing? Jake jumped out of the truck and walked around to her side. His big brown eyes staring her down. “Marry me? Someday?”

The roar of the truck was, oddly enough, relaxing. Leah wasn't totally incompetent when it came to cars, but she wasn't a genius with them either. She knew enough that she could probably get by if she ended up on the side of the road. She could probably help Jake put one together, though he'd have to do most of the work or tell her what to do at some parts. And she liked them enough to appreciate the beauty in an older model or ride a motorcycle or dirt bike... though that probably wasn't going to be happening any time soon now that she was knocked up. Her eyes closed of their own accord as Jacob drove and she listened to the sounds of the truck shifting gears. Despite the fact that she was sure several people in La Push and Forks thought that Jake's truck was obnoxious, Leah absolutely loved it. She loved the look of it, the feeling she got when she sat in the passenger seat, and the way it sounded as they drove.
She was in her own little world where it was just her and Jake in the truck and nothing else mattered when she realized that they'd been driving a bit longer than what it should have taken to get to her house. Where the hell were they going? She opened her eyes and noticed they were driving through Forks. Okay, definitely not normal. It made her nervous to be so close to the Cullen house. What the hell did Jake think he was doing? But they didn't head in the direction of the secluded place that could only be described as a small mansion. They kept driving. The speed at which they were moving would have scared her if they were human. After all, her imprint had just died in a car accident. Oddly enough, Leah wasn't thinking much about the recently deceased Chase. What did that say about her, or imprinting for that matter?
“Jake, you don't have to prove anything to me.” She sighed. The last thing she wanted was for Jake to feel like he needed to prove himself to her. She'd done her part in getting them into this mess as well, it wasn't all on Jacob. And when they'd gotten together, they had both had imprints. It wasn't like Leah was completely innocent in this – her imprint just happened to be dead now. But she had to admit, hearing that he cared about her more than Bella and even Renesmee sent butterflies to her stomach. Normally, Leah came off as very independent and confident. But she very insecure when it came to Jacob's feelings for the leech and the tic.
When they pulled up to Kay Jewelers, Leah's eyebrows pulled together in confusion at first, and then her eyes widened as Jake got out of the car. What. The. Hell? Though she'd had her suspicions since they'd parked in front of the jewelry store, Jacob's words still took her back for a moment. She slid out of the truck and stood in front of the man she was going to have a baby with. Part of her wanted to jump into his arms and knock him to the ground; part of her wanted to get back in the truck and swear that this didn't happen because she was afraid he was doing this just to prove a point. But when she looked into his eyes, she knew her answer couldn't be no. She'd already admitted to herself and to Jake that she loved him, and they were having a baby together...
“If it made you happy I'd make you get back in the truck and find us a court house to marry us right now.” Her arms found their way around his shoulders as she moved closer to her. “I'd love nothing more than to marry you, Jacob.” She took in a deep breath. “I just want to know that you're not doing this because it's what we're supposed to do. If it's too fast, we can wait. We still have the Cullens to deal with... and the pack. And our parents... and siblings...” She pressed her lips lightly to his and held herself close to him. When she spoke again her words came out in a whisper. “If you're serious about this, then my answer is absolutely, one hundred percent yes.”

As soon as Leah got out of the vehicle, Jake noticed her facial expressions as she looked over the jewelers. He wasn't fooling around now. It was time that he and Leah called it serious. There was a baby on the way, and his Casanova days were over. For good. Glancing back and forth from Leah to the store, Jake began to go pale. Of course it worried him that she would say no, and go her own way. That's just the way Leah was. He didn't care if she crushed on him badly, or anything like that. Her form of thinking was rather difficult to him sometimes. It was as if she was somewhat bi-polar. And being pregnant didn't help matters at all. It only made her fuse much shorter than what it used to be.
Finally, he got the answer he has been waiting for. And if he could have them married then and there, he would. But it wasn't good to rush into it just yet. Marriage proposal was perfectly fine for now, until they had gotten the news out to the Cullen's about the pregnancy and engagement. That was one thing he feared right now, but he wasn't going to let that bother him. It was his and Leah's time to bond now. He hadn't brought her to Kay's for nothing. Grabbing Leah's hand, he started for the store. A smile not leaving his face. So what if he was young. This is what he had wanted, and no one was stopping him. Not even Billy, or Rachel. "Now, you can pick whatever you want." Money was nothing to him at the moment. Hell, if he could of he possibly would have went and spent time out in Paris, or somewhere nice just to propose to her. But he couldn't go to that extreme. That right there would eat at his wallet.
Opening the door for her, he allowed them both in. There at the counters sat about three well-dressed jewelers. So he felt a little under dressed, but it wasn't the time and place to think about that either. Pointing to a glass case, Jake grabbed her hand once again and led her in that direction. His heart was damn near about to jump from his chest as soon as he made it to the counter. There in front of them sat the most beautiful diamond rings. All, radiating with nothing but beauty. Glancing them all over, he had noticed a few that he really liked. Even though the prices happened to be outrageous. It just looked like Renesmee wasn't getting that big of a birthday present this year. Hopefully she wouldn't hate him. Being his "unlcle" and such. Jake knew nothing would happen of him and her. And if it ever did, it wouldn't be the same.
"That one." Jake pointed to a nice sized rock. His eyes were set on that for some reason. The Jeweler reached into the sliding door and pulled it out, placing it gently into his hands. Glancing at the price tag, he noticed to six-thousand, three-hundred and forty-five dollar ticket. Biting the inside of his bottom lip, he just dealt with it. Now was the time to make everything just right. Pulling out his credit card, Jake sat it on the counter and waved the jeweler away. His hands trembling terribly from the adrenaline. But yet, he was so nervous. Droping to one knee, Jake held the ring out in front of Leah. "Now is the time to make it right. I know you said yes out in the parking lot, but I am going to ask you once more." Shifting just a smidgen, Jake cleared his throat and grabbed her hand. "Leah Sequoia Clearwater, be my Mrs. Jacob Black?"

Leah felt a mixture of things; happy was definitely one of them. There was no denying that she was in love with Jake and had been for quite a while. The only thing keeping everyone from seeing that was the way she acted toward them all – she pushed everyone away. And really, what choice did she have? People got on her nerves easily. She used to be nice, back when she had been seeing Sam. But since then all she did was get sarcastic and offended easily. Until Jake decided he wanted to be with her. Leah could let down her guard just a bit with Jake. Sure, she was still the same sarcastic Leah to everyone around her, but at least Jake knew there was something more to her and that was really all that mattered to her... though she figured he still thought she could use an attitude adjustment now and then. Then there was anger, because even though this clearly meant that Jacob was choosing Leah, it didn't make the problem with the Cullens go away. Nothing but a good long talk, and a possible fight ending in very likely the death of the two shifters, would make this problem with the Cullens go away. And even then maybe it wouldn't. Maybe it would just get buried until some day it lashed out and got everyone upset... again. There was guilt, boy was there guilt. Leah and Jake had gone behind their imprints backs and slept with each other. Somehow, the fact that they loved each other didn't take away any of that guilt, especially when Leah paired it with the fact that she'd gotten knocked up. She hadn't even been able to tell Chase what had happened because now he was dead. Just died. And Leah was already saying that she'd marry someone else. What the hell did that say about her? She reasoned that it meant she loved Jake more than she could have ever loved any imprint and that hopefully the same was true for his feelings for her. Still, when this got out she was going to feel worse than that Hester chick in the Scarlet Letter.
But right now, the big part of the guilt was this whole jewelry store. Leah was well aware that neither of them were made out of money and that they still had baby things to get because who knew how short this pregnancy was going to be. She was only a month along and she was already sure she could see a little change in her body, a little bump where there definitely should not be a little bump. For heaven's sakes they were doing everything at once and that wasn't nearly as frightening to her as the costs of rings. She really didn't even want to look at them, but it was like that old cliché about watching car wrecks, how you couldn't pull your eyes from them. Okay, maybe not exactly like that because Leah's eyes were more focused on Jake than any of the shiny pieces of jewelry. It was her mind that was on the jewelry, and not really even that, it was the cost that she was worried about.
Jake got down on one knee and proposed again and Leah thought she might literally topple over and just not move for a really, really long time. She wasn't changing her answer, but for some reason, the words just made it that more real. She was going to marry Jacob Black. She wouldn't be Leah Clearwater anymore. Sure, there was still the nagging part of her brain that said they still had a little half tic to worry about, but he said he'd leave her. The selfish part of Leah was ecstatic. Okay, so most of Leah was excited about that and she just mentally noted that it was a bit selfish.
“I already told you I'd marry you,” She smiled and knelt down next to him so she could talk without everyone overhearing them. “That's not going to change, you don't have to get me a ring or anything. We've got a lot on our plate as it is.” Her mind went through the list: house, baby things, doctor visits, and then the things that were going to cost them more than money, like dealing with their family and the Cullens. “We don't need a ring to tell anyone, if that's what this is about.”
